Floor corrosion

[quote]Had a look at my footwells todays!

The drivers side is ok but here is the passenger side
Looks EXACTLY like mine
No letters either, not even a recall about duff fuel pipe rubber.I’d be interested to know what the dealer fix is for the floor.

I can’t believe you haven’t looked at the piggin’ floor before now !!!.. not lifting the mats i might understand but waiting till now to look at the footwells takes the biscuit…

you NEED to lift the plastic mat and clean this up - if you wait around for Lotus it will only get worse, however, if you pull the mats up and clean the mess and then keep it dry it won’t get any worse until the dealer network are ready to repair them all.

I can’t believe you haven’t looked at the piggin’ floor before now !!!

In my original post I did mention that I had already checked the footwells and found some bumps!

To be honest, I struggle to even get the time to wash my car most the time and especially with the HGF of late the car was starting to be a PITA and the mats have been pushed to the back of my to-do list

But anyway the car is running really well at the moment thanks to Nick Whales and Im finally starting to enjoy driving the damn thing again

… Even if my feet do drag on the road through the holes I havent bothered about!

robbo

sorry about all the finger wagging… but its a really easy job to lift these mats and save yourself future hassle. - you already have the corrosion but you can prevent it worsening… only a few minutes to get the mats up and then maybe 30mins to clean the mess up (you don’t need to lift the black double sided sticky tape).

Well we might not have letters but it is on their website - http://www.lotuscars.co.uk/template.cfm?name=IMPORTANT_NOTICE_TO_ALL_LOTUS_ELISE_OWNERS

Ian

New carpets won’t be available until the end of April apparantly.

Whats the latest ?

I spoke to Ian at Nick Whale’s yesterday. It should be kicking off in June. He reckons on doing about one car per day, so it could go on for months…

Has everyone removed the rubber matting from their Exiges or have you left it on ," if you cant find no bumps ".
Checked my floor , but it seems alright up to now , do you think I should leave the matting or take it up as a precaution

mines removed

i recommend you remove.

or at least peak underneath… mines came out easy - and if it had been clean (it wasn’t) the mats would have gone back in easily.

Thanks Rox

Ill take the mats out

Hmmmmmmmmmm Less weight makes it faster everywhere .

Sounds good

Hi guys,

Just to let you know,

My car is going in for the floor corrosion to be repaired / treated next week.

I’ll let you know more and post some pics when I get it back!

If you get a chacen, weigh the car before and after and see what the difference is.

I got the impression they were going to over engineer the fix.

Ian

Mom…Can I borrow your scales!

From what Ive been told, If the corrosion is not too bad then the surface will be treated with some sort of solution!

If it is worse then a secondary panel will be fitted on top of the floor mainly for aesthetic reasons.

Then breathable carpets will be fitted on top

There’s plenty of public weight bridges about… But a) how accurate are they? and b) what’s the access like?

I’ll ask me old man, He was a Trucker and must know if theres one around by us that I could use!

Unless anybody else knows of one in Brum!

Easy …

Load it up with heavy stuff ( maybe a few people ) so it looks overloaded and then drive around the M5 Island at Halesowen …

Get stopped by plod for being overloaded and escorted to the weighbride - quicly throw away all the heavy crap and presto - job done

Works for transit vans

Might just borrow my girlfriends handbag!!!

That should be more than heavy enough to weigh the beast down

robbo

that’s exactly what the lotus engineer told me yesterday…

Update,

My car has been de-bumped and Im just waiting to get it back…Hopefully today.

Best news though is that it wasnt too bad and both of the footwells should be sorted

I’ll post some pics as soon as I can
