After that who needs F1 .?
Overall there is FAR more interesting racing in Formula Ford and even Ginettas.

Ok i’m going to be a bit controversial.
I agree that Lewis has been penalised to much, not sure what penalty it should be, but very small one.
As when i replayed it in slow motion, i thought, if the corner had a barrier running alongside it, Lewis would of had to of braked sooner and nudge his nose right up behind the back of Kimi, then once on the straight, pull out from behind him and start to overtake, but because he cut the corner he ended up beside him which put him in a stronger postion for going into the next corner at the end of the straight or even for overtaking, but an advantage of only a car length not 25secs.
I love F1 and have watched for 20years, but they do always go far to strict on the rules.
Lewis did deserve to win that race.
25secs was the only penalty available to them in the last 5 laps.

Err…he let Kimi pass him by a full car’s length, which he could only do by easing off (as proven, alledgedly, by his telemetry), then outbraked him at La Source.
It’s not only that - it’s the inconsistent application of the rules, which is also a major factor in ruining F1.

I thought Kimi had a faster car down the straights and thats the reason for him pulling away from Lewis slightly didn’t realzie they have proof of Lewis backing off, didn’t look like much backing of to me tho.
matter of opinion i suppose.

As posted earlier in this thread McLaren: No choice but to appeal
Like many I really enjoyed the race, within the limitations of the TV coverage which never shows enough of the midfield racing for my liking.
While i can see a techincal argument that Lewis gained by running off the inside rather than backing off and dropping behind Kimi on the corner, he clearly dropped back and surrendered the lead. The sprit of the rule seems to have been followed, and it was great to see some close, skillful racing.
I wish I could say that this kind of decision tarnishes the sport, it’s been pretty clear that the FIA will do all it can to help the red cars. Why they felt the need to impose this when even Ferrarri didn’t contest the move is beyond me…
I’m so pissed off about this. Greatest end to a race for years totally wrecked.
Just for interest this was Ferrari and McLaren the other way around a few years ago. Schumacher got no penalty !!
I was mad already but that’s really got me going!

Hi guys,
Cheers for posting that one Rob, I hadn’t seen the in car footage until then.
Watching it makes me even more annoyed by the whole event.
BTW, Are you off to Silverstone at the weekend for the Le Mans series 1000km.
It should be a good day (weather permitting) and there might be some proper racing!
Hi Paul
Glad to see you’re still keeping your eye on here
Sorry, but won’t be at Silverstone this weekend, although would very much liked to have gone.
Pop into Donny on Friday if you get chance

After seeing that, the stewards must be crackers to come to their decesion the second overtake was all done in the braking zone not before so no way was the cut of cicane an advantage by then…
Cheers Rob,
Yes it should be a good day sunday and a shame you can’t make it.
I’ll definately see you all Friday
McLaren confirmed they are to appeal. What’s the betting on them winning?
It’s not clear if they can appeal. You can’t appeal against a drive-through/stop-go, which is what this would have been outside the last 5 laps.
Just watching the first bit of that great footage, it looks to me like the Finn lifted (braked??) very early before the chicane and Hamilton actually did well not to collect him by darting left… and in doing so was forced to the outside where he was then kept! No choice but to then cut it!
Stupid F1… just when it is getting interesting they go and make a stuff up of the whole thing!
What goes around comes around however!
COPIED FROM AUTOSPORT:
McLaren: FIA told us we were ‘okay’
By Jonathan Noble Tuesday, September 9th 2008, 15:09 GMT
McLaren have revealed that they were told twice by FIA race officials during the Belgian Grand Prix that Lewis Hamilton had given back the race lead to Kimi Raikkonen in an ‘okay’ manner.
With the team confirming on Tuesday that they were pressing ahead with their appeal against Hamilton’s 25-second penalty for gaining an unfair advantage, McLaren’s F1 CEO Martin Whitmarsh claims that the team enquired twice with Race Control whether or not their driver had acted in a legitimate manner.
Hamilton was given the penalty after cutting across the Bus Stop chicane while attempting to pass Kimi Raikkonen for the lead with three laps to go.
Whitmarsh said: "From the pit wall, we then asked Race Control to confirm that they were comfortable that Lewis had allowed Kimi to repass, and they confirmed twice that they believed that the position had been given back in a manner that was ‘okay’.
“If Race Control had instead expressed any concern regarding Lewis’s actions at that time, we would have instructed Lewis to allow Kimi to repass for a second time.”
Hamilton has confirmed that he definitely backed off as he exited the chicane to allow Raikkonen to retake the lead, prior to choosing to make a move at La Source hairpin.
“In the closing stages of the race I was catching Kimi consistently, lap by lap, and with three laps remaining I got close enough to attempt to overtake him on the entry to the last chicane,” he said.
"I managed to get slightly ahead of him in the braking area for the first apex of the chicane. He fought back approaching the second apex - but, in doing so, he left no room for me on the inside line. The only way for me to avoid a collision was therefore to cut inside the second apex.
"I came out of the second apex in front of Kimi and so I momentarily lifted-off on the straight, to ensure that Kimi got back in front. The team also came on the radio and instructed me to allow Kimi to repass, which I had already done. As a result, Kimi crossed the start/finish line ahead of me and 6.7 km/h quicker than me.
“After allowing Kimi to completely repass, I crossed from the left side of the track to the right side of the track, passing behind Kimi in the process. I then attacked Kimi on the inside of the first corner, and successfully outbraked him.”
