After watching the best race in years (as far as I am concerned), I’m totally appalled at the penalty handed out to Hamilton.
Agree. Best end to a race for years, and also enjoyed watching Kovvalinein batttle back through before he tangled with webber.
2 penalties handed out - both to McLaren ???
and just a fine for Ferrari at the last race.
Mmmmmnnnnnnn makes you think doesn’t it.
If Massa & Heildfelt have any balls they should decline the gift
What a load of utter b****x
HTF did Hamilton gain 25 seconds ???
I think they are doing it to keep the title race artificially tight - b******s
Hope Mclaren appeal to the FIA - then again maybe not, 6 points is better than FA

Mr Pesky, You really do not understand modern racing, do you?
Overtaking a Ferrari IS forbidden.

Just hope Mclaren withdraw their team for the next race in Monza. Nothing to be gained there anyway
Found this one on Lotustalk. It’s very appropriate:
Nico
How very true!
Did you see the interview with Ron Dennis just after the race? Assuming he was telling the truth, he said that Charlie Whiting had told him that Hamilton had complied with the “rules”, by conceding the lead he had gained. He must have “backed off” to let Kimi pass him, then he overtook/out braked him into the next corner, which looked perfectly fair to me, & almost everyone else judging by the reaction so far.
I’ve not been a great fan of F1 for some years, & couldn’t be bothered with it, but this season I’ve watched a few of the races, & was starting to enjoy it again. However, today’s farce has turned me right off it once more - thank goodness for Sky/Eurosport/Motors TV who cover loads of really interesting racing from all around the world, which I am very happy to watch instead of F1.
As soon as F1 becomes exciting and interesting again they penalise the drivers who are attmpting the lost art of overtaking, they should be commended not penalised.
Good news, McLaren will appeal!
But what are chances of success, given the final paragraph of the above article? Talk about a stitch up! Fingers crossed anyway.
If it wasn’t for the interest that Hamilton has been generating that would be the final straw for me. Cheating b*****ds. How many times did Raikonnen choose to stay out on the run off area to gain more momentum instead of re joining the track at the earliest point. Including the second lap…
Just as it got interesting again F1 shoots itself in the foot, both barrels
Some really classic racing ( at last ) now who is going to risk that next time ?
Its just becoming coorporate, advertising cock … I mean why the hell do the drivers keep scratching their head with the hand “their” watch is on during the press conference
That’s it, I’m boycotting the rest of the season, [censored] 'em.
Compared to the rubbish penalty that Massa\Ferrari got the last GP this is a crock of sh1t, I’ve always thought that Mclaren are unfairly penalised over Ferrari! like the spy scandel last year, weird how it seems it was all by Honda in the end! just look where most of the people from Ferrari end up working

Being totally objective, did Lewis have a better position having cut the corner - yes
Did it affect the outcome of the race - categorically not. He was catching very fast, it was clearly only a matter of time and on a driver that didn’t finish the race.
However, having had a look at the rules, (see below) who do you think was the worse party during the manoeuvre.
_“Incident” means any occurrence or series of occurrences involving one or more drivers, or any action by
any driver, which is reported to the stewards by the race director (or noted by the stewards and referred to
the race director for investigation) which :
- necessitated the suspension of a race under Article 41 ;
- constituted a breach of these Sporting Regulations or the Code ;
- caused a false start by one or more cars ;
- caused a collision ;
- forced a driver off the track ;
- illegitimately prevented a legitimate overtaking manoeuvre by a driver ;
- illegitimately impeded another driver during overtaking._
I also wonder if the race director actually reported the incident having stated to McLaren he felt it was fine. Ferrari have stated they didn’t appeal.
So who are these stewards that take it upon themselves to ruin an excellent sporting event (Italian/Brazilian I hear you cry). I was of the understanding there was a permanent steward ensure rules were consistently applied but that changed when Tony-Scott Andrews retire. So they scrapped the role and LOOK WHO’S AT THE BOTTOM OF THAT CALL - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/64826
I like many I feel cheated out of a couple of hours of my life and Massa should feel cheated if he ends up winning the title by less than 6 points; nobody respects him as it is, the last thing he needs would be to have his greatest achievement tainted.

It’s a bloody shambles. I can’t remember an F1 race I had enjoyed more in years. Hamilton did everything right. I can’t believe that McLaren won’t win upon appeal.
As it is, the pub F1 competition I organise is now on hold awaiting the outcome . . .
The closing section was the only F1 I have watched in the last 2years. Some great entertaining racing nullified by a stupid decision.
As Pesky says, I’m just glad that there is plenty more compelling motorsport to consume on MotorsTV etc. Also not forgetting that we’re lucky in the UK with lots of great circuits hosting lots of great events to go and see in the flesh.
I can’t believe that McLaren won’t win upon appeal.
I can’t believe that either but it is not even clear if they’re allowed to appeal. You can’t appeal a drive though, which is what it’d have been if it hadn’t happened in the last 5 laps of the race.

Didn’t Kimi clip Lewis on the following corner…I didn’t think there was any collision at the bus stop just a driver trying to avoid it!!! Total fooking disgrace!!!
The problem here is that IMO Lewis should have seen this coming. When he cut the chicane he let the Ferrari past but he was right on its gearbox. If he took the corner behind Kimi this would not have been the case and he would probably not have been able to overtake. Hence he took advantage of the shortcut = penalty.
The problem I have with Lewis is that he and his car where so much faster than Kimi in the damp that he could have taken him elswhere very easily. He is very good at controlling an oversteering car as can be seen from the onboard vids.
IMO the penalty is a bit harsh anyway since Kimi crashed by himself and would not have effected the outcome of the race.
