Exiges.com Trackday Cadwell Park SUNDAY 24th JUNE

Is there any places left for this? Do you guys all get insurance cover or is it like a safe bedford day?

Sorry, but the Exiges day (Sunday) is full - however the organiser, Lotus On Track, have a trackday at Cadwell on the Saturday.

Most attendees will have trackday insurance.

PS Cadwell is probably best suited to peeps who have done a few trackdays, rather than novices. See S1 Honda Elise at Cadwell Park, April 2007 - YouTube

Now you’re scaring me Mr Pesky. Can’t open your link here - why do you say that?

I haven’t been on track properly for a few years. Have driven Phillip Island, Eastern Creek, Wakefield and Oran Parks, Sandown, Calder etc (all Australian obviously). Should I be worried?

BenJam seems to spend most of his time with the rev counter almost off the clock. I don’t think I’d like that.
Has it not been recalibrated for the Honda?

That’s the problem, the std clock only goes to 8000rpm, the Honda much more.

As Ian says My rev limiter is set at 8600rpm, some 200rpm less than the recommended max. In practice, usually change up at around 8000rpm though, prompted by the sequential shift lights

Sorry, no intention to scare you, but if you’ve not been to Cadwell, you ought to know beforehand what it’s like Obviously, I’d no prior knowledge of your track experience, so hope you’re not offended.

Perhaps this works for you?

JPM - I did Cadwell last year - only my second track day and the first in the dry!!!

I think I would have cacked myself in the wet but dry was absolutely superb. Nearly went off on the slowest corner (hairpin at top of mountan) on first lap then calmed down till I got in the grove!

Nearly went off on the slowest corner (hairpin at top of mountan)…

The one where you’re just looking out at countryside and seems as if you’ll takeoff?!

Ian

Looks like fun - I certainly won’t be setting any records - new car, barely run in, stock geo…

Ian

yep… well sort of I ended up face to face with one of those fecking huge green bales - had to reverse in order to continue with my lap…

I won’t be able to make it now. There’s no way I can get the car run in and oil changed before the day, so not much point going. MSV say no refunds, but if anyone wants to talk to them about using my booking give me a shout

Engines don’t need 100’s and 100’s of miles to run them in. The drive there should be more than enough then simply change the oil and filter at the track.

i think they have always been there, it’s just that sometimes they are moved up right to the kerb…

What was it Thelma & Louise yelled as they headed out over the edge!

Right then,

Can I ask if any of you track gods can give us lesser mortals some set up advice for this fabulous track day? This track scares me senseless, so any advice would be very welcome.

Firstly - tire pressures.
I normally run my tire pressures on the road at 21psi for the fronts, and 23psi for the rears. When tracking, reduce all of the ‘hot’ tyre pressures by 4psi on arrival (I am usually late so do not have time to let them cool down). After the first session I equalise all of the ‘hot’ pressures (hotter side reduced to match the cooler side front and rear). After that I use a a temperature gauge measuring the inner, middle, and outer temps of each tire to attempt to see if inflated correctly (temps approx match), under inflated (central temp lower), or over inflated (central temp higher). I do get a bit confused when the readings show the hottest temp to be on the inside or outside of the tire though.

Secondly - Anti-roll bars
I have never touched these, but since I am on standard suspension, should they be made firmer to reduce roll further on track? I think from the comments of some of you guys before, there are at least three settings with the default being in the middle? How easy are they to change?

Thirdly - sorry, run out of stuff.
Beyond the usual ‘check your wheel nut torque regularly’, ‘bring some spare oil and check regularly’, I don’t know of anyhting else to do.

I have an S1 with standard supension on Bridgestone SO2s (I know, I know - I’m trying to wear them out so i can get A048s), but I am sure that there are some general set ups and checks that can apply to most Exiges.

Clive.

Floodgates open, lifebelt on.

Firstly Clive, don’t worry. Just drive slower on track, not beyond your comfort zone, and all will be okay. That might sound like simple, even patronising advice, but no amount of other tips you get will be as helpful or sound.

Secondly, if it’s dry, I’d say the one thing you’ve discounted is perhaps the most important, Yoko tyres. They give miles more grip than normal road tyres and not only enhance the experience but in my opinion tend to leave you with more spare grip in case of problems than what you’ve got on now.

I wouldn’t worry about the ARB, the tyre pressures are more important. Take it with road pressure run it around for 15mins and then take them down to something sensible all round and go from there.

But seriously, you don’t really need to do anything more until you’re comfortable on track and ready to try something else that will make it more enjoyable (because that’s all trackdays are about).
