Exiges.com @ Donington Sat 29th April

The brakes should not be too bad. I managed a whole season on standard brake pads and only once did I get any bad fade.
I would get yourself up to Knockhill. Only half an hour away, and there are bound to be plenty of TD between now and April.

thanks Jamie,
sounds like a good idea. know of any coming up?
Denis

Keep an eye on the trackday section on

Knockhill is great fun!

If you have never been on track KH also do advance driver training (90)which is an hour on the track with a instructor and a empty track. I did it before my first TD and would recomend it

I would say its a pretty good track for 1st timers - craners is the only real place to be careful. There is plenty of runoff and corners that you can really commit to and enjoy.

Pesky can probably answer as if there will be any repair & maintenance support on the day - if so, then they should be able to fit a set of pads, etc if required on the day. However, that’s not to say that you should give the vehicle a good check over beforehand…

If I was you I would blag a ride as a passenger with a couple of people 1st thing in the morning. Take your time and build your speed up through out the day rather than try and go full tilt from the get go.

Not sure if Tracksport will have mechanics there, but between us, I’m sure we could change a set of pads

First 1/2 hour will be novices/Donington newbies only, plus there will be free instruction available all day.

I’m a Novice

I’ll bring a few spare body parts aswell just incase spoilers, splitters, diffussers etc

Just returning to our exiges day, I should perhaps explain what criteria was used to decide upon Donington on the 20th April.

Ya dotty old beggaa…

This got x-posted onto Scottish Elises. Seeing as how I own one of these silly S2 Exiges, I might come and give it a thrash! Will try and book up tomorrow.

Meanwhile, can someone tell me whether it’s the full circuit (with the GP extension) or the shorter one? I really don’t like the long circuit - you just kill fuel, brakes and tyres for zero extra enjoyment …

Cheers,
Robin

Welcome to exiges.com

would be superb to have you contribute if you get time

Pesky,

I’m no more a Jock than the Mexi-jock is >

Goalposts!? That must be some kind of football (soccer to those on the other side of the Atlantic) reference - do they play football in Scotland, then?

{rolls-eyes} … yeh but you have a lifetime visa… I have no idea if anyone plays football up here.

Fellow S_Ers - what’s the plan - down on Friday night, back on Sunday?

Robin

That will be definate for me and probably Uldis too…

Roger here. Rox was here but hasn’t told us yet he’s booked. And have yet to see what Ali wants to do, but that would me my plan.

mmm… i thought i’d said so…

Anyway, I have booked … Pesky gave me a freebie

Do any of you bad boys from up really North fancy meeting up on the A1 on the way down? You could pick up TarmacT around Newcastle and me near York/Leeds.

I’m a West Coaster so won’t be anywhere near the A1

Still hoping to take my car to California in March so all this would be dependent on it getting back in one piece

what’s that about then?

Well, I’m in California for 2 weeks in March and just had a bit of a hair-brained idea to get my car shipped over there. Well flown, really. I’m only going to do it if I can get some pretty reasonable air freight. Plan was to drive all over California, get across to Grand Canyon, maybe Yosemite, hopefully hook up a couple of trackdays and meet some of the US Elise boys. We’re going to the A1 GP at Laguna Seca and I’d really love to do one there. It’s a bit tentative at the moment though…

Are you nuts…

AIRFREIGHT !!!

What, for you, would be a reasonable amount of money ??.. are you mad as a hatter ?

Hi guys,
I’m about to get myself organised for this, but as it will be my first track day [and a 3-day round trip from Edinburgh], I just wanted to know that the circuit is suitable [i.e. enjoyable] for completely novice track drivers.

Also, I have a standard s2 [with performance pack] - should I get the brake pads upgraded before taking it on track - don’t want to ruin the day by losing the braks too early on!

cheers
Denis

You will be absolutely fine as a novice at this with us…

Donington will be an excellent cct for novices, as there is plenty space… just don’t believe the hype about doing Craner Curves FLAT and the first corner (Redgate) can be tricky so don’t go into it too fast (eh Pesky ).

On the brake front… just make sure you have plenty life on them before you leave home (it would be worth putting some fresh ones on) If you drive inside your limits (assuming that you are ‘normal’ ) then standard pads will be fine but you could try RS42’s or RS14’s or Mintex 1144’s or some such if you wanted to Upgrade.

First time I did Donington, I was on EBC Greenstuffs… not exactly an ‘upgrade’ and they were fine.

I just wanted to know that the circuit is suitable [i.e. enjoyable] for completely novice track drivers.

Beginners should get to start the day without the nutters hot on their heels. It’s also ideal as there’s free instruction, ring Tracksport and make sure you’re down for that early in the day and that’ll help a lot too. Passenger laps can also help you to get the idea, learn the lines and realise what is possible (although it is VERY important not to try and copy, seen people come acropper that way).

Robin, Ali and I could meet with Jamie and Denis in Edinburgh, come down the A701 (nice drive) and join Rox in the A74 down to Penrith and then A66 to Scotch Corner.
Or we could take from Edinburgh the A68 down to Darlington and continue on the A1 and M1

Opinions?

I should be fairly flexible count me in

Not sure if I can make this, looks like im off to florida on holiday.
Should know by the end of the week.

sounds good to me. I’ve got autotorque getting a quote for insurance and will then book up.

Hopefully getting a “special” deal. Won’t be your usual air freight…
