Just so I have this right.
Zero failures at 176ibft.
More ( by unknown amount ) is almost certain gearbox death?

At the HP you have I suspect it might be a ticking timebomb, if you track the car a lot it will fail, a road car you are more likely for it not to fail but Iād budget for it in your future.
I have not heard of 260hp cars failing on the road but there might have been I donāt read all the forums, Iād just plan for it or fix it now.
Sound advice I guess.
I wont be tracking it till new year and it will be doing approximatly 50mi/wk until spring.
I have been looking through paperwork and the box was rebuilt in 2009 - sadly no details of quite what though
It might well have had a rebuild due to poor syncros as this is a common fault causing crunchy or baulky changes, the oil you use in the gearbox is also really important, do not skimp on it, most use the redline mt90 I think (someone will correct me if Iām wrong).
As long as you are prepared, it is not a bad place to be, also consider finding a good 2nd hand gen 6 celica gearbox, they are identical apart from a taller 6th (this is a good thing in my mind anyway). You can then get all the bits sourced build the gearbox and then do a swop and add the cooler kit on top, you will also be best placed to add an LSD as well, you will need one with that much power.
I have the LSD already in the box. The box was swapped out also in 2009 with a spanking new a121e6003f
Ill take it easy for a bit then on next service put in some new, fresh fluid. I have been recommended some Millerās 75 90 LS NT by someone who rebuilds gearboxes for a living but I am open to suggestion
Ah that makes it harder to have a prebuilt box if you already have a LSD, the longer 6th is definitely a good idea though, never been able to go fast enough to need 6th on any track, but for cruising to your track day it makes it nicer
Sounds logical.
Just so I am getting the right box : Gen 6 is a ST202 box from a celica , right? S54 gearbox code?
Sorry, Gen 7, you need the box from a vvtli, the engine comes from the same car.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_C_transmission#C64
Basically the gearbox from a 190hp Celica
Ah , ok. Thanks
The 211 boxes fail at 270 bhp
I had the SSC 3rd 4th and FD. JDS cooler (LSD/Redline/long 6th etc)
The soft stuff in the box (syncos etc ) must be considered consumables and rebuild every 6-7000 miles is not unreasonable if you use the car as a track car and drive to the track.
The new gears were great and didnāt ever look like the weak point. (300 hp at the hubs)
I am new to the game - 211 ? Is that the c64 6spd?
Any idea what torque level kills them? Some are saying 190. some 200ibft.
The cooler seems to be key.
What gearbox/transmission fluid did you use?
211 is the open track car lotus made, uses the same Toyota supplied engine and box as Elise and Exige S2 so yes a C64
Mechanical sympathy will help, but as said, if you track it, it will break! Watch my video, no curbs, it broke at peak torque in 3rdā¦
This isnt fair. Nothing else is allowed to break!
I will be especially cheesed off as I am but a small % higher than the 260 exige torque wise!
Good job you havenāt fitted a 2.8 pulley .
Things get even more expensive thenā¦ I got through 3 clutches in short succession !
Exedy , helix and standard.
But the SSC gearset and quaife diff were bulletproof

Phew!
Just a 74mm pulley!

donāt forget that gearbox was designed for 190hp and no torque at all,
the teeth on 3rd and 4th are very narrow add the flex in the shaft and expansion of the gearbox from heat, means the skinny teeth donāt mesh completely and hey presto no teeth on 3rd gear,
fix it before it does break
but the same box was also in the 260 exige? Is that right ?
Yes, all S2 Exige use exactly the same gearbox NA 220 240 260
only difference is some will have an LSD
240hp + cars also came with a better clutch, again the standard clutch was designed for 190hp and no torque, mine spun out on a dyno run. My car was originally a 220hp car and that gave up at 260hp
I have LSD , and uprated clutch.
I feel I might be sat infront of a ticking timebomb
This could be fun
