cheers ed.
you not tempted to buy this?
i nreally want to get an s1 but scared of engine rebuilds.was talking to bertone on here for a while and he gave me lots of good advice.

anthony…has this car been involved in any accidents?
how reliable has the engine been since the rebuild.do you have all receipts and service history.
thanks
Dean

no probs, see also:click for dicussion thread on seloc
for some more details.
considered it but gunna save for s/c install for when my warranty is out next year.

mmm never go on seloc…heard they are like a pack of wolves!!

super charging?nice mate…sounds good.
fingers crossed by this time next year i’ll be driving an exige.
have you driven an s1?
how does it compare to the s2?
graeme at murrays has promised to take me out in the exige s next time i go up.should be interesting

No accidents in the 2 years I have had it and I am not aware of any before that.

I have the receipt for the rebuild, came to nearly 3500 and included new big ends, skimmed head, skimmed crank, new clutch, new alternator, head gasket etc etc

Also the brake discs and exhaust are all quite recent.

I have had no problems with the actual engine a few niggles with some of the ancillaries, all now fully sorted.

FSH up until the rebuild then I have done it myself, where it has been pampered beyond belief. For example I have only done about 4500 miles in it but have changed the oil at least 4 times.(Silkolene Pro Race)

At 16K, it’s got to be bargain, cos it’s got all the “right” extras ie sports seats/harnesses, nitrons, braided hoses/RS14’s etc

Good luck Anthony - peeps should be banging your door down - unless it’s the Police, of course

waiting to hear about a new job.
if all goes well soon i could be banging on your door!!!

i really want to get an s1 but scared of engine rebuilds.

Reading any owners forum like this one can sometimes be quite offputting, as most of the conversation can seem to revolve around problems but that’s only because its such a good source of solutions.

Try taking the cars off any of the owners - even those with original K series engines (the real hardcore S1 boys ) and see what happens.

These have to be some of the best entertainment on four wheels you can get…so I’d just get stuck in and not worry overly about anything.

the daft thing is i’ve never actually driven an exige,s1 or s2!!just feel that its the car for me

you wouldnt regret it!
never driven an s1 but they look and are rapid on track.
i have no mechanical skills what so ever hence keeping the s2 for the moment. wouldnt recommended trying the s, you might do something you would forget.

Good luck with the sale Anthony!

If you are thinking about an S1, I really urge you to drive one. They are quite different from ‘normal’ performance cars and (depending on its intended use) are not for everyone.

I too ‘felt’ it was the car for me and test drove one and at first just did not ‘get it’ and walked away. Only after I had done some track stuff did I go back about 6months later and have another go…obviously I have not looked back.

My initial point still holds though,…get to a dealer and drive an S1 and an S2 asap. If you intend to track it (which of course you do) get along to an event and I am sure one of us will give you a pax lap or two.

Excellent advice and not very far from how I came to own an S2. I thought there was no way at first - after coming full circle I really can’t imagine anything else being as good (we didn’t really get S1s here! ).

no chance mate,i’m daft but not stupid!!debate at will on this one!!
but i feel that in the current petrol climate that i really dont fancy a turbo or a supercharged car.spend enough cash at the petrol station as it is and it gets my goat the Gov making sooo much cash on it.

cheers for the advice benja, its what i’ve been thinking anyway.
jkelly on scottishelises.com as offered me a pax in his s2 but really want to try the s1.
i do intend to track it but it’ll be used a fair but on the road.
if i get my hands on the s1 i’ll be looking for the soft top kit to get rid of the heat in summer…(fishing for a pesky!!! )

BTTT

The is no soft top kit for an S1, and you’d bugger the air intake.
Somebody managed to modify his S1 in order to be able to remove the hard top or re-install it, but not a soft top.

You can be the first one, but don’t think Pesky would ever speak to you…

‘if i get my hands on the s1 i’ll be looking for the soft top kit to make it look really shite. I could buy an Elise but then that wouldn’t wind Rob up as much…’

Sorry to interrupt on that one but it has been done already with a soft top. I know of at least two cars that have had a soft top conversion (yes s1) and yes it is UGLY. Will try to find a link. From te back of my memory, one is for sale from kumschick in Switzerland…
