Not exactly what you call cheap… And perhaps a tad overweight for a racer

Bound to see a load of special editions over the next 12 months to try and keep sales going - this one looks like nothing more than a name!
this one looks like nothing more than a name!
Don’t forget the “Hethel” stickers
“S Club Racer”

Yes, I also got the mailshot from B&C.
What about the colour? Flat pale blue with a black stripe!! Tricky one that - how about pink with a nice blue stripe for the next “limited” edition?
Maybe we should all hope they don’t sell any & go bust
Wouldn’t that be good
Rant over

Don’t worry, nobody on this forum is perfect… except Mr Admin of course
I think it looks quite good
Price is not to bad
Standard S in matallic with Touring pack Sports pack and Aircon delivered comes to a shade over 40k anyway
Seems a bit strange that “club racer” gets super touring pack and not super sports pack!
…airbags and extra sound proofing have always been high on my list of priorities when looking for a car to go club racing.

It’s only a marketing exercise. The type 72 Elise wasn’t eligible for F1 either
Looking at the pic it does appear to have the 255 cup roof scoop though

Yup - special additions are a sure sign of a model coming to the end of its life. The S2 Elise was launched late 2000, so a new or heavily revised S3 Elise/Exige has to be on the cards soon. My bet would be on the Geneva show next spring. Not a good time to buy a new Elise/Exige methinks…

I was at Hethel yesterday and they said an S3 was being worked on but that it would be a less radical change than S1 to S2. A more complete replacement would be at least two years away.
I’d have thought that with the Eagle and Esprit coming soon, Lotus must be too busy to make any major revisions to the Elise/Exige.

Probably true, but given that the Elise/Exige is their bread and butter, and that the enthusiast market they are in always craves something new, Lotus would be daft not to at least bring out a heavily reskinned Elise/Exige pretty soon. They surely can’t expect to soldier on with the S2 elise looking pretty much unchanged for 9+ years - the sales would dwindle away to nothing . Mind you, from the point of view of residuals of my own car I would be quite happy if the Exige carries on unchanged for a good while yet.
