Even more French legislation for drivers

Yes, more legislation to be aware of for drivers when taking to the French highways.

French authorities have warned UK drivers planning to travel to France that they face an on the spot fine of 17 euros if they fail to carry a breathalyser in their vehicle.

The requirement for drivers to carry a breathalyser has been introduced as part of a continued programme to reduce the number of road deaths in France.

What a farce and where does it end???

Got one for Christmas

Why should I have to buy a breathalyser to drive in France, I never, ever , drink anything alcoholic when about to drive , or driving anywhere. If the Frogs need to check me , they can supply the equipment !!

They probably will supply you with the equipment. Attached to a Gendarme fractionally after heā€™s relieved you of 17 Franco-Deutch notes

First Iā€™ve heard of thisā€¦not doubting you but why???

hahaha, donā€™t be pissed off,
do you think we cheese eating surrender monkeys petrolheads are happy with such stupid rules? no we ainā€™t

itā€™s not mandatory yet, itā€™s said to be applied in spring 2012

now iā€™m wondering if it will apply to any car that drive in France (iā€™m french but live in luxembourg, so really donā€™t care about fooking french road rules), iā€™ll dig into it

PMSL

had a look,
it was an annoucement made by sarkosy (u know, angelaā€™s mate) end of november, ever since no news

Will this new regulation apply to the pissheads who lose their licence and then continue driving round in micro cars.Expect the French authorities will leave them alone because of the huge purchase tax they slap on these silly toy cars.

Correct if Iā€™m wrong but does that mean that, when in France, we need to carry:

  • Photo ID, driving licence, insurance and registration document
  • First aid kit
  • Complete set of spare bulbs
  • Warning triangle
  • Breathaliser kit

And we need to wear hi-viz clothing as well?

Phew! I thought it might be a pain in the ****ā€¦

I think itā€™s ā€˜anti ā€™ Roast Beefā€™ legislation , and itā€™s the Frogs who drive around ratted

Read today in Dutch newspaper that they also accepted a law last month banning all GPS equipment that tells the driver where fixed cameraā€™s are posted with fines up to 1500ĆÆĀæĀ½

The same article confirms the breath analyzer requirement law will probably pas in July. Fine is 11ĆÆĀæĀ½

Iā€™ll pay the ĆÆĀæĀ½11 fine if I get stopped but it is just to make money from us Brits :frowning:

this is just ridiculous. Whats the point of bring your own breath analyzer as the reading can differentiate from 0.5-20% compare to the proper one used in police force. (According to the newspaper article which i read not too long ago.)

I think this is just a way of making money on foreignersā€¦

rightā€¦ I have just had 5 pints and about to go for a driveā€¦ Oh I know I best check my breathalyser first??

I can see that working wellā€¦

Well, how about after drinking say 1.5 or 2 pints pints - do you, or donā€™t risk it? Will the kit help you decide?

Donā€™t forget this will be the law for all Frenchies too, & their ā€œdrink drinkingā€ record/deaths is extremely high compared to say the UK. If pushed, I would go for zero tolerance as far as drink driving goes.

Fine in principle but what about false positives?

Youā€™d be banned then uncle P cos the human body produces alcohol ā€¦ Reading is seldom zero !

Okay, Mr Pedantic - set a limit as low as practical to be enforcable. The sooner drunks, & the uninsured are off the road, the better, as far as I am concerned.

PS I am not proud of my own former drink driving habits from many years ago - I was lucky not to get caught, nor have any ā€œaccidentsā€ as a result of the boozing.

And whilst weā€™re at it - I canā€™t for the life of me think why smoking whilst driving isnā€™t an offence! Something else I used to do!!!

Eating a pie and gravy is fine though

So long as you wear a bib of course
