Pesky,So whats the verdict ?

hey Rob…great news…and please, tells us afterwards, wheter the car is indeed going faster backwards than forwards [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image] [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image] [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]cheers,Bruno

quote:Originally posted by rupzo:Pesky,So whats the verdict ?Interesting question!I went to pick the car up from the dealer (LRV) at around 4.15pm yeaterday, just as it was about to be fired up for the first time, & road tested by a technician. He returned after 10 mins - but reported a misfire at 5500rpm! I thought he was joking at first, but no he wasn’t!!! As he had never experienced the misfire himself, he chose not to “drive through” it - no complaints from me on that score.I was allowed into the workshop (yes I did sign an indemnity, JohnO [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]), whilst a monitor was plugged into the new ECU - guess what, no faults were displayed! It was pointless phoning the factory for advice at that time on a Friday afternoon! So, I suggested that I take the car out for a run, accompanied by the technician. Fortunately, there are some country lanes within a 1/2 mile of the dealer, so I was able to put my foot down, in 2nd gear, on 6 or 7 occasions, reaching 7000rpm - not once did it misfire! I also held the revs at 5500rpm for a few seconds a couple of times -again, no misfire. The overun sensor (r/h rear wheel) has also been re-connected (per new service bulletin), so the popping & banging is greatly reduced, but still there.LRV will be installing the new ECU to more Exiges/340Rs next week, so it will be interesting to see what transpires - JohnO [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]Car is now garaged for a week, whilst Mrs Pesky, me & Pesky minor go to the SW for a holiday - strict instructions being given to the Pesky teenagers not to use the house as a magnet for ravers, whilst they are left in charge!!! Whilst in the SW, we will be visiting RogerX, who finishes his European tour this weekend, with a gig in Hyde Park [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]Conclusion - not really sure yet if there is one, until the car gets some miles on the clock with the new ECU - fingers are crossed though!I must say thanks to LRV for their excellent customer care (Albert & Jane in particular), & for promptly sorting out the recall work on my car [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]Finally, I look forward to hearing about others’ experiences with the new ECU!

Cheers Bruno - may come & see you in late Sept/early Oct - okay???

no probs, Rob, you are very welcomecheers,Bruno

I haven’t heard from dealer or Lotus yet, should I be worried ??I’ve had the 5500 blip a couple of times but always put it down to dampness. It always seemed to clear itself - not always after a restart, sometimes just by driving a few more miles. But… I guess if Lotus are doing a recall then it must be software…

RoxTeddySuggest you contact your dealer - quote him your car’s VIN number per the registration document. He should then order either an exchange ECU for fitting in the next week or so, or he will book your car in for the existing ECU to be re-programmed as soon as he gets the requisite software from the factory. The misfire can also arise if the plug leads are not firmly seated on the coil pack - suggest you check this regularly. Upgrading to Magnecour KV85 leads is also a good move (see http://www.eliseparts.com or http://www.race-speed.com, both are fantastic sites for upgrades etc). Finally, too much heat in the coil pack itself, can cause a misfire. This could arise from being in standing traffic for a prolonged period with the engine running.Hope you enjoy your car as much as the rest of us do. I’ve just had the new ECU fitted last week. The first impressions aren’t favourable. First, when you come off the throttle, the revs seem to stick, esp. under 5000rpm. This eliminates backfires but makes driving in town a pain - there is no engine braking and you have to brake against the drive of the engine. Second, it feels like there’s noticeable power loss. I could be convinced that it is just a more progressive power curve, but for the moment I experience none of the manic bhp surge between 6000-8000rpm. Need to test this fully on the track. Third, pops, bangs and flames have all disappeared. Some people may find this an improvement (after all, it is a safer car that won’t catch fire…), but I am disappointed with the sanitised delivery and inert off-throttle response. My dealer shares this opinion and insists that everything’s been installed correctly. If so, I’ll be on the phone to Lotus in no time!I’d be interested to hear your experiences.Roland (fyi: 190 with sports exhaust and breather kit, no catalyst)

RolandWhos your dealer ?? and did you ask if he would swap it back FOC ? [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image] ( maybe I already know the answer there … liability blah blah I’m sure )Did you have the speed sensor disconnected before the change ?

quote:Originally posted by Sprinter:First, when you come off the throttle, the revs seem to stick, esp. under 5000rpmMy S2 Sport 190 does this too. It is a bit irritating as it makes you sound like a bloody learner driver!Tim.

Conspiracy theories aren’t normally my cup of tea, but having very little faith in the Hethnel bunch I reckon the new ECU will probably be programmed to tone down the Exiges performance, so that the car can get through the MOT. First experience of Lotus being pro-active prior to being sued by many owners!!Mine is at the dealers again, waiting for an engine wiring hareness after ‘rubbing through 2 key wires on a bracket’ (technical explanation).Dealer told me he has been waiting for the hareness since begining of July.Any one fancy swapping for a S2 111-S?

Just in case some of you guys overlooked this in Nick Adams blurb: quote:If you have disconnected this sensor (RH rear wheel)to get lots of popping and banging from your exhaust on overrun you will I’m afraid have to reconnect it.

PaulAny idea which or where the wires are that rubbed through and if it is a common prob?CheersMike

Having spent a lot of time in the engine bay [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image] the only way the wiring could rub through is if it wasn’t cable tied up properly, generally speaking the wiring side is pretty good, all mine now have white cable ties instead of black, they each weigh .00001 gram less [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]

Don’t know where they have rubbed through (to be honest I am starting to stop caring).Guess the fact that Nick Whales have a few on back order may point to more than an isolated incidence.

Anyone had the Emerald ECU fitted… 5500rpm an issue there? Is that an alternative to the Lotus fix?

Was at the dealers today, for what should have been the fitting of the new ECU and some warranty work, but was informed Lotus have recalled all the new ECU’s. Anyone know anything?Dave
