Nice to see Alan Titchmarsh’s pimped-up pick-up parked next to it too…

Sorry…

PMSL

Its only 300bhp

Its only 300bhp

Yeah, but Nigel could tweak it

Has anyone contacted them … prototypecomposites.com … Group Buy ?

I wonder what it costs for the kit and how much weight is saved

With or without the gold leaf?!

I contacted them, lets just say you could buy a new Exige for the price of a complete panel set. Mind you the work looks brilliant (from pictures) and proper bagged/autoclaved Cf does not come cheap.

No use to me nowhere to put the shopping

That looks so hot,…but one misshap and the car will splinter and spider crack, oh yeah it will need a full clam replacement or a full respray…but it is still fuuukin hot…
Will it be drivin in anger ?.. Worst thing about the car is that it’s not road legal so why bother, Ok still looks fuuukin cool

Not too sure about the blue? steering wheel though!!!

Worst thing about the car is that it’s not road legal so why bother

Frank - do you just mean its not road legal in the US; or do you mean someone more generally applicable due to the material?

As carbon fibre is stronger, or at least pound for pound, then it should be subject to any more damage than an equivalent fibreglass item, should it?

With regard to how carbon fibre breaks up - sharp splinters - is there a way to stop this? I wonder what an insurance company would make of the potential higher damage caused to a pedestrian smashing into a carbon front clam; and what about carbon seats - are they a great idea right up to the time you crash in one?

S1 Exiges are not legal in the US, I believe some people have special plates allowing them to show the cars or drive them to track days but no more.

Because carbon fibre splinters I understand this is why the WRC rally guys use Twintex instead of carbon fibre for the bumpers etc.

Twintex

(my timing strut for sprinting is made from an off cut of twintex from a race car bumper )

It’s just a road legal thing here in the states or I would have bought a Honda powered center seat S1 that was for sale a while back… I think the car is totaly fookin cool and would love to have one, just slap on one of Scuffies new A/W chargecoolers and go nuts in the canyons…

I wonder why they spent all that money on an S1 body and not an S2 wide body ?

Because the S2 is really an “Elise Coupe” ie same powertrain as an Elise 111R with the addition of a roof. The S2 also weighs a lot more than an S1. Lotus made the mistake of launching both Toyota powered cars around the same time, without any significant performance differential between the two, & this alienated existing S1 owners. That is the main reason why S1 owners keep their cars, & if a performance hike is wanted the way to go is either Honda or Audi. The Toyota is always gong to struggle to exceed 280bhp & be reliable.

In other words, there is no attraction for a S1 “trackday regular” to consider changing to an S2.

In an ideal world, I’d have an Exige S as my everyday car, & keep the S1 as my proper car - unfortunately, I can’t afford to do that!

Whether you prefer the looks of an S1 or an S2, is purely down to personal choice.

The S2 Exige is still a great car.

I actualy agree with you, if I didn’t want a very capable road car with the odd track days use I would have bought an S1 SC honda instead of my S.
The S makes a very good compromise but will never be quite as capable as an well sorted audi or honda S1 on track.
However the S1 does not have the road manners of the S2 it is all about what you want it for and make your choice.

Cheers Ade

Glad you understand I wasn’t trying to be provocative, just an honest assessment of the views of most S1 owners

Happy motoring, all, whether it be on the road or track

A nice missive, refined over time.

I don’t know about the struggle to maintain 280bph I think it’s a pice of cake to make it reliable with the proper chargecooler and tune…I like the S1 Exige but you can’t use it on the street here so it doesn’t work for me…but you can turbo the crap out of the 2ZZ to make a daily driver with 450rwhp or a full nuts 560rwhp… The reason I haven’t gone turbo is just the fact that you can’t put the power to the ground…
If your making carbonfiber bodies to sell, you should sell to the largest market to “try” and recoupe your cost… so I’d wan"t one if they would make a wide bodied S2 in order to fit “HUGE TEN INCH WHEELS” …
