Makes perfect sense. I understand now the dont reinvent the wheel thing!
I drove over a decade with the 2 litre. Many trackdays, chairty events and fast road. Works great with the std gearbox and cannot have any real complaints to be honest. Problem is wanting power
I know that feeling!
And then there was a long day driving over from Holland to Calais, tunnel to Folkestone and a long touristic route to the pick up point.
The Honda engine, gearbox, mounts, subframe, loom, hondata and toyota gear shifter+cables have arrived.
Time to clean up the garage, get all the tools in order and start wrenching. First need to order more bits and pieces like RCC intake manifold, exhaust, drive shafts, etc.
That’s a decent haul! Will be following this with interest.
970km without the tunnel.
Left at 0315 at night and back home at 2230.
Food in Brighton, tour at analogue automotive, did some more sightseeing.
Have not been in the UK since 2009 it was good but to short.
Think next trip will be to HPE to pick up items I need to order.
Quick update. Talking to someone about an exhaust so that could be sorted in the next weeks. No rush as I am not having time to get the engine in.
And this weekend I picked up a JRSC with EP3 manifold and a Hondata map.
I started to remove the Duratec engine. First things first: moved from a small village to a city last year. It means higher prices for real estate so bigger house for family but smaller garage for dad…
Garage is long enough just not long enough for all the tools and a rear clam. Not really wide either but doable.
Quality of the conversion is not depending on the size of the garage fortunately.
In the mean time also contacted safety devices for a rollcage … might need to bite the bullet for that.
For a second I thought you had two cars, one above the other.
Same issue as you, narrow but long garage.
haha that would have been fun. Sadly I hardly have time for one toy so would be a waste.
Gearbox mechanism from Turbo harry has arrived. Looks very solid and well put together.
Ford is out. Next is label the wire loom to the mfru and then the conversion can be picked up.
Next to that is removing all sound and heat isolation and make new bulkhead and fit only heat isolation. With the Honda being little bit heavier, removal of the sound deadening compensate a large bit of the weight.
Received a beautiful package from Gaz/Spitfire engineering. Cannot wait to install it.
Also ordered full set of bolts and pieces for the gearbox refresh from onedaymotorsport
Also ordered the clockwise baffled sump, only one who replied was Torque GT so ordered from them.
Also ordered some gaskets for intake and exhaust, waterpump, thermostat housing as I will continue using the PRRT, valve cover gasket + the extra bits and VTEC filter and such.
Send an email to elite transmission for custom specced plated diff but not heard back yet
Next is:
Timing chain + bits and pieces
TTV 3.2kg flywheel
Exedy stage 1 clutch
Flywheel bolts
Clutch cover bolts
Bolts to mount gearbox to engine
Studs for exhaust and intake
LSD
Then we can start to get the engine and gearbox ready to get in.
First things first, replace fueltank, create new bulkhead and put in fresh coated subframe.
That’s a fantastic shopping list there!
It is Andy. Should be running before the winter. Always dangerous to say that
Today waterpump, valve cover gasket and some other gaskets came in like the vtec one.
Clockwise sump is underway
And today ordered the ttv 3.2kg flywheel
Clutch and plated diff are last big pieces that are needed before getting the engine ready.
Do have to check the timing chain together with valve clearance.
Need to get some gaskets, intake and exhaust studs and clutch cover and flywheel bolts
After that can finally work on cables, fuel lines and coolant lines
Enough to do…. Lets start with removing sound deadening material, replace tank, replace subframe and build a new bulkhead.
Well the title can go to Honda motorsport elise/exige s1
The full duratec conversion is picked up and will be in another elise/exige. No way back!
Also a nice update again. My “old” gearbox will be up for sale as I found a fully rebuild gearbox with 4.038 final drive and Kaaz LSD from a project that stopped.
Price was good so not worth to inspect my “old” gearbox and order a diff and bearings and and and.
Problem is now that the topspeed will be higher then my balls are big.
Well last big box of parts for now!! Everything is here to get the engine in excluding cooling, fuel and oil lines and some small bits like other connectors for on the injectors, etc.
It is now just spending time on it to get the engine and gearbox in.
Did some cleaning of the engine on the outside.
More cleaning on the other side and removal of the valve cover.
Cyl 1 on TDC and checked all the markings, looks like the chain is fine. Will remove side cover to check the chain guids etc.
Then.
Sump is removed, that needs some proper cleaning. Clockwise baffle is already here but another plate will go in, something I have seen in other K20’s conversions and cannot be bought at the moment so we have to make it ourselves. Good thing is a friend already made one so I can use his design.
Old fuel tank removed
Subframe removed and will rebuild the bulkhead back close to original. Enough room behind the passenger seat for the ecu and fusebox
Before I removed everything I played a bit with the electric handbrake caliper. Going to be an easy fitment with adapter and while 288 would fit I am going for 295mm at the rear.
Close to starting to clean everything and rebuild the bulkhead and place the fuel tank.
And another box with parts for the engine
And further…
Some stuff came in so I can change the fueltank
2x converter 3/8 to AN6, 2x 90 degree AN6 to PTFE and 1 meter PFTE with black coating so I can direct it directly in the enginebay when swapping the tank.
Removed sound isolation from bulkhead, little
More to do.
Made a very advanced 3d cad model to rebuild the bulkhead close to stock. Couple of centimeters more room in the engine bay but no longer a very big access plat to the engine bay from the cabine.
Have to cut it out next week and fold it
Remove paint from valve cover as it was scruffy and will become black
And this plate is no longer made by tractuff and nobody is offering it. Friend made it and has a cardboard design I can borrow but both are very busy so no time to meet up any time soon.
So have to make it myself.
What an update! Loads of new shiny bits
Doing my best to get the car finished ASAP. Taking some Fridays off as all my other time goes into family/work/study/sports.
Looking forward to this coming Friday to make progress again! Hopefully fold the aluminium and glue it with sikaflex to the bulkhead and install the tank.
