I’m not one to over exagerate but I cannot find the words to describe how rapid the GTR was that i drove today. I only had it to myself for a couple of hours but in that time it left me convinced that theres nothing available today that would be able to keep up with it in the real world (day to day driving on UK roads). The power delivery was instant and available from low down and the transmission was to die for - I hate flappy paddle shifts but this one had me convinced that the future isnt in stick shifting.
Anyway if you have a spare couple of hours phone your local Nissan HPC dealer and get a test drive…most fun you can have outside of an Exige.
I,m jealous !
Had a good blast in the zige today … was ace tbh … but at the same time very frustrating … combination of not having a good enough view ahead to pass slower cars and tippie toeing on track tyres through autumn leaves took the shine off …
Even thought about switching T/C back on at one point !!!
On balance when you look at what you get for the cash, it has to be the performance bargain of the century, however running costs are hideous if you track it, over 3 years a GT3 would be cheaper
I test drove a GTR too, Middlehursts kindly came to my house after the goodwood festival so I could have a go in one.
Gearbox is very nice, power is nice, but I have to say I did comment on it needed some more oomph, dont think they expected me to say that. But being as they all ready have them up to 1000bhp american ponies and doing 9.19 at 163mph quarter miles full road cars in the states was very tempted.
360CS will set you back around 85-100k, 430 scuds are sill 150k ish. 458 try 200k, and GT3Rs canbe anything from 65k to 120k depending on model.
GTR is a nice car, and was seriously considering one, but even with my 5ft 10 self in the drivers seat, there was no way my kids could sit in the back, if only they had made the rear seat slightly more upright and made the part you but your backside on thinner so my kids fit I think i would have bought one.
A 911 porker has more room in the back in a smaller overall package.
There isn’t a Ferrari or porker that would keep up with this on a typical British road during autumn/winter (6 months of the year then). It’s 4 wheel drive, high ride height (compared to most super cars) and easy dsg gearbox took all the guesswork out of pressing on quickly. If I had the money then one of these as a daily driver and the exige for track days would be ideal.
I also found several uk cars for sale at 40k - a bargain.

997 Turbo with sports chrono pack - quote from Wiki
“Its believed that the updated 997 Turbo was benchmarked against the Nissan GT-R in response to 3rd party testing between the 997 Turbo and the GT-R”

Would be my choice over a 50K Datsun !!!

You can get a new 997 Turbo for 50k ? Wow !
I’ve driven a GTR in anger around the Nurburgring F1 circuit (part of the Nissan push before it went on sale) and it’s a fantastic car. So much power.
However, my money would be on a Merc C63 AMG, better badge, more practical and that sound ! Not as fast as a GTR but neither are fully exploitable on UK roads.
