Donington Park Noisy Day : Tue 6th October

Who’s is the GTE??

Gav’s (jammy double GTE git)

So he has two of them :astonished: Greedy fooker

And the red one is pretty special!

(big engine, carbon EVERYWHERE, etc)

I have to say, having seen it I’d find it hard to buy an Evora 400, as I’d always know what it should have been.

yeah it has proper appeal, and what a noise it makes

that’s it, it’ll explode next time it’s out.

No way it’s luck buddy, you’ve got some proper skills with a spanner!

Big Engine? Tell me more…

It’s from Wiltshire apparently.

Still has the Swindon engine in the back Tim!

You calling John a big engine?!

Tim, I know no details, I’m sure somebody will be along shortly.

Sounded wonderful. And looked it

this one probably?

More pictures needed I think…!!

Well yet another awesome day out on circuit with the exiges gang. Really fantastic to see so many exigers out to play and extra bonus that John, Jonny, Steve and Charles (the new owner of NO13 CUP) came along for the craic. So many fantastic cars too with the star being Gav’s mega GTE, what a machine, I think there was a circle of drool around it as we all marvelled at its carbon loveliness. Gary and Yvonne’s friend Syd was there too and after stunning us with his F40 at Spa this time he was piloting a super mean brand new 991 GT3 RS…wow :sunglasses:

After my first stint in the R300 a few weeks ago I had really struggled to get comfortable so Jonny suggested I got a bag seat. I popped up on Monday for Stuart Faulds to do the honours. You end up literally sitting on the deck and really low hunkered down in the car and the seat really holds you in place, it really works. Meant I was there nice and early too to enjoy the unique curry experience at Gandhi’s with the guys (and Yvonne).

Out on circuit in very greasy conditions the R300 still felt totally alien. As things dried up I started to turn the wick up, its a properly quick little car this. Had a great couple of sessions hammering around, one tucked up behind Tim with Dave pushing us both on. As my seat time ticks up I’m starting to find some confidence and some pace but there’s so much more to come. Quite a few red flags spoilt our fun at the end of the morning session, and then the rain arrived over lunch. Driving a 7 in the rain is seriously good for improving your car control. Early in the afternoon, ragged would be the way I’d describe my driving. Like Dave says; you can keep it neat and tidy but when its wet the temptation is always there to get it turned in and then be a total hooligan. Its all about building confidence about the car moving around and as the afternoon wore on I started to find some. One session, out on my own with the circuit seemingly to myself, I absolutely nailed Coppice, turn-in in third, prod to get the rear mobilised keep enough throttle to hold it there, flat shift to fourth with the wheels still lit up sliding it out to the kerb…wooohooo :sunglasses:

The best session had to be the last one where Dave and I just went a bit mental hooning about like nutters on pretty much every corner even down the Craners :open_mouth: I still have the mental image of looking out the side of the cage going round Coppice with Dave similarly crossed up in front of me,…yeah then Dave got black-flagged

As is typical we were the last out of the circuit as we all stood around jawing,…thanks for the lift home Tim, appreciated. I was absolutely knackered today though but can’t wait to see the little blue beastie again. Quite likely that it may be possible to squeeze in a cheeky trip to Anglesey later this month…bring it

This ^ Seriously in the smallest of single garages you’ve single handedly reinvented that car Tim into something properly mighty. It’s soaked up some proper abuse this season. You were going really well yesterday and the car just hooks up and goes. Like Dave says, its a credit to you

Brilliant stuff everyone - pleased you all had fun

Cheers guys, I think given what the cars give through and how project cars get under your skin in a way a stock road car doesn’t, DK03 will just keep evolving. It’s road legal days might be numbered though, it might have to go live with johnny.

Tuesday was great fun, really enjoyed that session with Dave, Ben and I all running in a train. I struggle to get my mojo on at Donny, but that dry session was cracking. Although I was loving the slingshot out of coppice.

The wet brings different fun for the se7ens but while you learn stuff on zzrs in a lotus, it can become annoying being a chicane for the m3 you were monstering 30 mins before.

F’ing nitrons will be up for sale soon, another broken clicker on a shock that’s only 18 months old. tbh I might go ohlins but up the spring rates compared to others; Honda cars need to limit the CV angles and my diff means droop isn’t as important to me, but this will all be checked by someone who knows what they’re on about. TTX36 anyone?

So Gav, cant belive youve got 2 GTE’s, some people are just plain gready! Is it one of the twenty or a special one off? Piccies?

Gav

Special one off Gav, pretty much as they were when first built withthe Swindin engine still in it.

I had no idea (or intention) of getting the red one, just happened to spot it when I was down there looking at my silver one being built and asked what was to become of it? They were on with pulling all the other GTE’S apart that didn’t get used for the twenty road cars and over the next couple of days it was to be pulled apart for the panels and the chassis and running gear were to be scrapped off same as the others. Had I not stepped in when I did the car would not exist now. I don’t look at is as being greedy at all, I look at it as being the right thing to do, it would have been a travesty to lose it like that…!

Track use only!
