Data Loggers

I’m thinking of getting a data logger to see how shit I am, does anyone have any experience?

I’ve looked at the DL1 and AIM EVO4? Any others worth considering?

Also has anyone had any experience of connecting a logger to a Hondata K-Pro?

I don’t need a data logger to tell me that about me :frowning:

Bonus time again matey

I spent some time looking into this and came up with the conclusion that real time data on the track was more use than sitting at home later with my laptop playing with myself !!!

So with that I bought a AIM dash which will give me real time stats along with multiple additional sensor readings

Not used it yet but should be in the car for Spa

Dont worry ben, I can tell you how you are doing if I ever attend another trackday!!

We live in hope Con, we live in hope…I don’t need to go CC too do I?

Yeah and thanks Quo, you’ll be so rusty by the time you get back on circuit I’ll be pushing your sorry arse around data logger or not

Hmmmm interesting. I still think a logger would be better for me as it’s post event that I have the time and focus to look at it.

And that also does not breach trackday rules, Ben  Please note, Chris.

Is it ok to look at corner speed data as long as you don’t look at lap times?

I have heard good things about DL1’s, although never used one myself. A lot of the LOT guys use them. I had quite a lengthy chat with David Harvey about his usage of his DL1 and he swears by it.

Ive just had a bit of a google and it looks like the DL1 can be connected to the OBD output of your K-Pro

Have a play with the DL1 software before you buy one. Last time I looked after a car with one, it was ‘interesting’ to say the least.

Are you being serious, Ade?

Yes I was about to post that based on our conversation yesterday that you felt that the differentiator between solutions was the analysis software. Alas I dont have a pc to test the software (I’m mac) so will ultimately need to invest in a shitty lap/netbook to run the software too.

From looking at the website screensshots the Aim software looks far better.

You should find that circular thing with the needle that moves around as you get faster perfectly adequate for that purpose Ade

Crickey I don’t dare look down…

I have the DL1 and wouldn’t want to be without it. Great bit of kit. The software isn’t particularly user friendly, true, but once you get the hang of it, it’s very useful!

Ben

I have a DL1 … well 2 actually … anyhow I can send you some of my log files and if you download the software you could have a play with them. Excpet you have a MAC … is it grey or brown ?

As John has said the software takes a bit of understanding, the newer versions even more so in my experience …

But getting ay data from the Kpro is a no go unless you change to the PRB version. The PRA ECU does not have a serial output so you cant connect to it. The Race Technologies FAQ now confirms this after a few us tried without success …

You could wire back in a OBD connector and use that but it seems the data is very slow and so not reliable.

However you can get signals from throttle pot, brake switch and sensors by tapping into the signal lines from the sensors and putting them into the analogue channels on the DL1

Thanks Andy that’s very helpful.

I found the thread where Chris had a similar painful journey with PRA and his AIM dash.

Looks like either AiM or DL1 are options wired directly to inputs.

Oi I’ve got an Electronics Engineering degree bitch, and I work in high technology

OK, I’ll be honest any actual work will be on the to-do list when the car goes to JSR in the next week or so…
