And here was me thinking Con meant that the slow data feed to the OBD connector would be OK in Ben’s case as he was such a slow driver.

Point taken but the lap timing function is of secondary importance in my change to the AIM dash. I wanted shift lights and the ability to monitor more data than the std dash.
Also all of the data will overlay onto the smartycam video for post TD analysis.
I know that TD timing is ‘not allowed’ but I have lost track of the amount of times I have see knob heads with stopwatches on their Iphone’s timing each other with no action taken by the TD organisers.

If I’m there mate, I’ll have no hesitation in grassing them up - track days are precious, & I’m not prepared to let selfish idiots jeopardise their continuation, & the enjoyment for the rest of us.
Do you not need someone to interpret the results and tell you where you are going wrong??
I know I went wrong years ago even without a data logger.

I’m with Mr P here (odd I know) I have and will do again, tell the TD organiser if I see anyone timing, if I spot it it must be obvious
Last time I was at Oulton there were 4 guys sharing a Nissan and taking turns on track with the others timing.
Blatent and no one did FA
I supose everyone with a logging dash has got a problem unless they tape up the bit on the display that shows the time etc

Did you report them to the TD organiser?
No 'cause I was scared !!!
being serious - by the time I’d found the organisers & pointed the numpties out the Iphones would have been away and the std ‘not us guv’ response would have been given.
Also you & all TD organsiers are not naive to believe that all the various race type cars we all see on TD’s are not timing etc ???
Looks like I’ve inadvertently opened a can of worms here

I can’t believe that a good TDO would not take firm action, if it had known this was going on. I’ll report anyone who potentially invalidates my trackday insurance (& of course the Circuit’s & TDO’s insurance). I’ve seen both Bookatrack & LOT deal with transgressors , & that’s one of the many reasons why I only use them nowadays. Some years ago I got a right royal rollicking off Bookatrack, because someone I knew was timing me from the pitwall with their phone, although I was totally unaware of it at the time.
Downloading data info after the event for private consumption is not a problem, of course - unless that info is then fooking well posted on forums, which some pillocks do!
That’s not the point Chris - it’s up to the TDO’s to deal with this - if they don’t know it’s happening, they can’t sort it or keep an eye on the “numpties”.
With regards race teams, imho the TDO’s should be particularly vigilant, they have a vested interest after all. If they & circuits can’t get insurance…bye, bye trackdays.
I agree but how TD organsiers police it ? They’ve all got GPS logging kit in the cars so how do you stop them using/analysing it ???
Told ya…can o’ worms
If you see it report it, I once told JL after seeing someone timing, 5 minutes later he was dealing with the issue even though he never saw it first hand, I know he trusts certain groups of people to help him police his events as he can’t have staff everywhere.
What do we think of this then

If you check around the various forums they’re all at it !!!
I’m not condoning it but to think that people are not doing it is
Collating data for private viewing/analysis after the event, does not breach the rules (as yet)…simples.
Reviewing it on the day, or posting it for public consumption later is WRONG. As I said before, why should a few dickheads spoil it for the vast majority who abide by the rules?
Just because it happens, doesn’t mean that one should join in, or not assist the TDOs in stamping it out.

Agreed
Phew…agreement at last
Yes I was about to post that based on our conversation yesterday that you felt that the differentiator between solutions was the analysis software. Alas I dont have a pc to test the software (I’m mac) so will ultimately need to invest in a shitty lap/netbook to run the software too.
From looking at the website screensshots the Aim software looks far better.
I use a DL1 and am a Mac user mate, I just run a virtual machine to analyse the data, no need to buy a new laptop!
Also worth taking into account who you can share data with when choosing a logger, as thats useful to see where you are faster/slower and perhaps where to make time up… Choose a logger that no one uses and you are on your own
No complaints with my DL 1
EFA
Good points Dave.
I know I could run a VM, but I need another machine anyways and figure it may as well be a cheapo laptop given its occasional use.
Looks like it will be a DL1 for me. Thanks for the guidance guys,…oh and the mini shit fight
more like resignation
