Well you are mistaken, it’s my car if you check the classifieds (this is not the azure blue exige that has been for sale for months) and is well known by the longer term members here and in Scotland. I’m pretty surprised at such a random and unwarranted comment appearing on this forum. I would appreciate it if you would amend this comment, given that it is 100% untrue and unhelpful to others in the community.
So if it’s cheap what is the true value? I know it’s good fun to speculate on the value of a car you hope is increasing but don’t want to sell - i’ve been doing it for 13 years. When it comes to actually selling, you have to be realistic about what cars actually sell for. I took advice 3 good sources and came to a realistic decision.
For anyone that is actually is looking for an S1 feel free to contact me for correct details.
I’d think allowing for other 2 dealer cars out there and the quality of upgrades and general condition of your own id of tried A nudge over £30k. I’d compare to the £28,995 dealer car on pistonheads that needs £3-5k of suspension & refresh. It’s a similar factory spec, minus some of the nice upgrades yours has.
But it’s your car. Best of luck with the sale either way, I’m sure no one intended any offence.
It’s always hard to move on such an important part of your life - and to be clear an Exige is not just for Christmas - but admit I am having similar selling thoughts myself - it is soo neglected at the mo ;(
I agree on this. The problem is the two with dealers now sitting about at this price. They are sitting for a reason. Surely you would get your asking price from a specialist no problem. I was offered £30k for mine unseen (couple of pics in an email) and £32k if they sold it on my behalf.
Purely my opinion but I think the car in Southampton is a particularly low standard, it really does need some money spent. It’s also not the most desirable mix in terms of options or colour combo. I think if someone were in the market with £30k to spend they would hold out for another, it just doesn’t have a compelling “something” to make it desirable.
The compelling event via a dealer is probably just use of finance.
To me an Exige is a very niche buy, it’s s car where it’s compelling to buy from a knowledgeable and enthusiastic private seller who knows the car they are selling. It’s not like buying your daily driver where you just scan the Internet for the make, model and options you want and buy the best value one.
I think the dealer if a specialist would of been better off spending £3k on it and selling it at a higher price with the work done.
Ref the B&C car it had sold to a chap on here who pulled out based on a few issues, sure that one will sell, it’s not been up for long.
Looking at recent auction results and non sales, I think that the ‘classic car’ market is currently undergoing a period of readjustment - some classics are bulletproof and will weather this be interesting to see how Lotus values hold up - already noticed that S1 Elise prices are under pressure - time to buy 1 (or 2)?
Funny, the S1 Elise prices still seem strong to me. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong place.
Worth s quick mention for Kerry’s car. It’s very nice indeed and I’ve salivated over it a few times at various meets. Amazed he’s selling up TBH after all the recent suspension refresh. Lovely car and partly responsible for now owning one myself.
The prices of these recent two are very good for someone jumping into S1 ownership. I would have thought this year you would have seen prices up £3-5k on last year.
Hi all, new here, looking for a S1 Exige to compliment my Elise. Been to look at the B&C Exige, but might you share (by direct message if you prefer) what faults you found with the car to see if there’s anything I missed?
Jamie was really honest about it, so maybe give him a call, or Steffen at Analogue Auto, who came to test drive it with me. It was, we thought at least, a thermostat issue, so I was concerned it had been repeatedly overheating.
Ah! Yes, as you mention, Jamie was very upfront about that. Like you say, fault traced to a the stack temperature sensor, and all repaired now Thanks for getting back to me!
I’m not a mechanical expert, a few here are, but I think the concern isn’t that the sensor had failed and needed to be replaced, that’s pennies, it’s more if it had failed across a long period and wasn’t managing the cars temp what other inherent damage has that done. Could be none, but in a car with an engine known as being at risk of HGF without careful ownership, it’s a cause to at least think and investigate further.
