Anyone tried adding the stiffer cup 260 shear panel? Worthwhile upgrade?
Suppose to add 30% more rear chassis stiffness. More details here…

I tried but it doesn’t fit with the moroso sump
I’ve not got a morso fitted, but thats worth knowing.
My cars going to cornering force in just over a weeks time to have a full suspension setup done with new springs, valving and adjustable front and rear blade arbs (maybe the first exige?) - The car will be fully datalogged on track, so I was unsure whether this would be worthwhile mod before they start the data logging sessions for the ride and handling characteristics.
Cornering Force, anygood? just curious as I need my car corner weighted and setup (along with an adjustable arb fitted). My last exige was done by Plans and they had my trousers down come payment time!
I’m confused, it goes under the fuel tank, not under the engine, has anyone found out how much they are?

Thats what I orignally though. It doesn’t replace the existing shear panel, instead it runs vertically under the engine joining to the existing sheer panel.
They are about 90 I believe.
it goes underneath the engine compartment area and ‘supposedly’ stiffens the rear subframe>~.
I have an early version of one on the 2-11 which is all part of the undertray design (what a nightmare when you come to take it off!!)
They seem to be quite good by all accounts - http://www.corneringforce.com/
They created a front and rear blade arb for the vx220. They are keen to develop a similar system for the exige, so will be using my car for development.
The aim is to develop a spring, dampening and arb package that will improve handling, but also ride comfort by working in harmony. They are by far the most sophisticated outfit I’ve seen in terms of suspension setup - Everything is data logged on track and also computer simulated. I don’t know any other racing outfits that have gone to such detail to be honest - Looking forward to the result.
Has anyone had this sheer panel fitted? Is it worth it?
My car is back at Lotus tomorrow morning and for the sake of 90, if it’s worth fitting, I might put one on.
Just want some thoughts / feedback before I do though. I have to say that I don’t find my car lacking in grip, but if it does make it feel better, then I might as well get it.
Comments on a postcard…
Anyone?
Unless your racing and pushing the car to it’s limit on a regular basis I’d be amazed if you noticed any difference in stiffness just my 2p
2p…That should get your postcard to Southampton
Adding weight again for no good reason ??
Well I’m getting it fitted. It’s cheap as chips and I might as well give it a go
…
Although I’ve posted about the shear panel on the 260 thread on here, it’s probably relevant for me to update this thread as well.
In the end I didn’t go for the tea-tray mod because it doesn’t fit 2010 model cars. Instead I had to go for the full 260 Cup undertray.
Here is a photo of my new undertray and as you’ll see, the middle section is reinforced to increase structural stiffness.
The difference now is quite profound! The car is much stiffer and feels solid as a rock. You feel the bumps a lot more on the road but when you turn into a corner and power out, it feels all very direct, positive and planted…much more so than before.
Of course I’ve not pushed the car hard because of the weather, but even at town speeds, you can feel how much stiffer and taut the car feels.
Interesting the shear panel is mounted to the undertray. I always assumed the undertray to be non structural.
How come the shear panel didn’t fit the 2010 cars? I didn’t think there would be any diference…
Too many beers, Nick!

The shear panel tea-tray mod doesn’t fit due to a change in the mounting points apparently. To do this mod on 2010 cars you need to do the full under-tray including diffuser because the standard diffuser doesn’t fit to the Cup 260 under-tray.
The whole thing is a lot more solid and stiffer than my previous under-tray and as a result the car feels a lot more rigid. To be honest i didn’t think it would have such a large effect and was the first thing I noticed when I drove the car.
The only disadvantage is that you get more rattles in the car because everything feels that much tighter.
