Crossroads

No not a shitty old TV series, in life… Well motoring life.

Today I watched my baby drive off to France in the hands of her new owner and I realised that for the first time since being seventeen I do not own a car… I am not counting the wife’s or the van because one belongs to her and the van to the company (even if it is my company, its still not a car  ).
The problem is I do not know what I want or where I want to go from here really. I feel quite empty and emotional at letting the exige go but I know that it was the right thing as it had just done 400 miles since November which is a travesty in itself.
I like the idea of an S1 elise but I am slightly wary of it being a money pit and not that reliable… Now we have the boat we are going to the lakes nearly every weekend and need to keep miles off the Merc as its only 12k a year on the lease. Plus with sleeping bags + pillows + my wifes clothes I am not convinced an S1 has a big enough boot

So what to do… well an evora would be nice but I am not convinced I need to be spending more money right now as we still really need that kitchen  Which also kind of rules out the Vantage’s I keep looking at

So I think I need some time out as I have just been looking at the silly cheap lease deals on 250CDI SLK’s, Now don’t all shout Noooooo at once, they just tick all of the boxes I can think of…

Its probably time to hand in my man card.

Boothy

I see JCT are quoting 1.9 APR on finace .
Nearly an interest free loan on the extra few grand for an Evora and it’s even got a boot and 4 seats for any potential little passengers !
Should be very reliable with a large Toyota V6 in a very mild state of tune too.
Less attention grabbing than an exige too which is one of the reasons I’m after one.

Is the 1.9% not just on new cars mate? Thinking evora sports racer and elise S?

What will Benny & Miss Diane think?

At least with the Evora you could fit Sandy’s wheelchair in the back

Well sorted S1 Honda for £15k?

None about for that money without silly miles on, tbh though they are a little harsh as a road car imho and prone to their own problems.

Duratec would probably be a better bet, Evosal had a nice black duratec last year that would of been perfect.

Mate,

Boothy mate, sorry to hear the Exige has gone. But you have some great memories!

LISTEN up…

You will STILL only do 400 miles in a year in your toy! That is why you decided to sell the ‘expensive’ Exige.

So, simply solution is to buy an S1 Elise for 9k. There are LOTS out there, you will find a good one.

This ‘stuff’ about S1’s not being reliable is just Bo…ox! They are simple and cheap to maintain. (My two S2’s were less reliable than my two S1’s!!!)

Just take the roof off and enjoy open top motoring which is what the Elise is all about. The standard car is great, handles brilliantly and is fast enough! FFS, 6 seconds to 60 is not exactly slow!!! It only weights mid 700’s and is a joy to steer and plat about with.

An S1 Elise will bring a lot of bang for your hard earnt buck… and you can then spend the rest on the other kind of car you need in the practical life!

Just noticed the typo… BUT,

‘plat’… must be a mix of play and blat!!!

Get an early S2 111S or a late S1 111S great cars and plenty fast enough for fun. The VVC mech will make it a pain to mod so you will leave it alone, a late S1 would be great as I can’t ever see them loosing money now.
Really interested to know what yours went for in the end? Can you PM me? I might have plans…

Get an S2 Exige S. They are great cars.

Alternatively, you could combine Stephs new kitchen with your motoring desires…

Or you could combine boating with Lotus ownership…

I never thought I would say this  , but I totally agree with Pete!!

PMSL

It looks cool the Europa boat :sunglasses:
Does the soup kitchen come in Ardent Red though Tim.

My friend Paul has just sold his for that (deposit taken I believe) - pretty good all-rounder.
Anyhow, you’ll be back. Bigger , stronger, faster and with a new kitchen

Was that the Blue 160 or the silver/grey one? Not much else about really atm, last year there were a few tidy S1’s at good prices but they seem few and far between at the minute :frowning:

Does anyone know how long a NCB lasts if I cancel my insurance?

Andy

Class Tim

I think the NCD is valid for 2 years.

Oh, Boothy! What are we going to do with you? Put you in a bag and shake you up.
Or try some therapy( not retail). Tim’s idea is a good’un. But if you’ve got cash to spend on a bloody boat there’s no hope for you.
Yachting is like standing in a shower tearing up five pound notes. Powerboating is the same except it’s £10 notes.
