Converting NA Exige to Exige S

:frowning: What shame

Sorry about the drift chaps

Just a quick update on this incase anybody is interested or knows more then me. The largest part of the cost of buying the parts is the ecu/loom/supercharger from Lotus. The rest of the parts though such as manifolds, mounting brackets etc are reasonably cheap, I think all the parts come to just under a grand if you exclude the ecu/loom/sc.

I’ve been trying to source an off the shelf Eaton M62 with the intention of proving that all the lotus manifold parts will just bolt on, obviously this could be flawed if the casing on the Lotus one is different, but the lotus part is really expensive.

After that the only other major issue is the standard S Lotus ECU and Throttle body is fly by wire, and my particular Exige isn’t. Currently I don’t have a solution for that yet.

I’m only looking into this as I know my car and it’s flaws so don’t really wanna swap, and I can’t justify at the moment spending 6.5k on a conversion.

 Always interested.

the 240R was run on a throttle cable and was not fly by wire, your biggest issue on the SC is the nose length (the gap between the main body and the wheel) these differ for different cars, I’m not sure what the exige is and if the fitment matches an off the shelf car.

Andy can you not get a supercharger off a scrap car? Maybe try Junks.
As for the ECU CN’s have done quite a few cars now (Well over 20) and everyone gets their old ecu back (mine and my injectors are in my cupboard here) So getting your hands on one should be easy. As for the TB I would go scrapper again.

Boothy

The ECUs are different on cable throttle cars, might cause an issue :frowning:

I think Andy is fitting a new loom and TB to convert to FBW so I assume the ECU would work?

Interesting information on the 240R Ade, I presumed that would have been the same as the S.

Boothy I might try Junks for one, i’m not quite at the stage where i’m willing to have a stab at this, more research is needed really, especially in the electronics area.

I was trying to avoid switching to a fly by wire throttle as apparently the pedal box needs changing, and that again becomes cost prohibitive and complicated. I wonder though how different a 240R ECU/Wiring loom is compared to the standard one on a mechanical throttle N/A car. Might be the next question for Paul

Although I think a combination of Exige S manifolds, off the shelf Eaton M62 and 240R ECU with a mechanical throttle is just far too easy a solution!

The 240R loom has a additional wire for a 5th injector (inlet manifold) and one for the IAT sensor of course. The rest is exactly the same as on the NA cars.

The connectors of the ECU are different compared to the new fly by wire setups.

I have updated my NA car this summer with a manual throttle 240R setup (100% OEM Lotus / Lotus Sport parts). And it rocks!!!

For tomorrow I have planed a dyno run… I am already very very exited!

Regards,
Thomas

Thomas you could be my new hero

Are the two extra wires part of the main loom in the 240R or are they added outside the main loom? In other words did you have to replace the whole loom or just add in the extra wires?

Can you post the results of the Dyno up on this post? I’m sure there are a few people who’ll be interested in the results of it

You could source the MP62 SC from the states…when I was looking it was working out at 1300 as opposed to 2500+ from a Lotus dealer. Also SWLotus was selling a brand new one on Ebay a few months back for 1300…they maybe worth ringing as he has these bargains from time to time.

Andy at CN said to me that I was looking at 7.5k to get it upto 260 spec.

I think the BOE TVS install from the States is probably the best solution as it uses the new Eaton TVS without the need for an intercooler. Cost wise the VF2 fully installed from Dan(Roadboy on SELOC) is the best value.

Just been reading about the 3.5litre V6 install for the ELise/Exige over on here Click Might be worth saving up for when it is officially released.

I got a new loom. So I have replaced the complete “engine harness”. But I think that if you can get the connectors it might be possible to use your old loom. You just have to open the big ECU connector… :frowning:
