Converting NA Exige to Exige S

Has anybody tried to convert a NA Exige to a “proper” Exige S?
I am a aware of the aftermarket sc kits and the official sc kit from Lotus.
Their “problem” is that the after market kits would not be road legal where I live, and the power output of the offical kit is a bit limited.
Would it be possible to get the paperwork from Lotus to make the conversion Lotus approved?
I would imagine buying the required parts from Lotus would be rather expensive opposed to sourcing it from a breaker. But is really possible to get the “Exige s” bits from a breaker?

Thanks

You will struggle a bit, might it not be easier\cheaper to buy or upgrade to an S?
Does the car have to look original? Which country are you from?

I’m in Norway. The car is completely standard.
I’m currently advertising my car but it is taking such a long
time to sell it that I am starting to consider my options
The market for such cars in Norway is not very large.
Exporting the car is not an option due to the MASSIVE car taxes that has been paid for the car. (tuning the car will also involve paying even more taxes, due to taxes being based on the power output )

I thought the aftermarket superchargers fitted by approved lotus installers were registered by lotus, updating the information they keep of all the cars they sell.

Lotus certainly did do an upgrade to the N/A to the 240 configuration if your car is a cable throttle pedal and it does look very original however I’m not sure if there are any left even to purchase now, also I’m not sure if you would get any form of certificate for it, have you tried speaking to Lotus sport they might be able to help?

Not yet. I thought I’d check if anyone had done it first.
Mine is a DBW

Not sure about DBW for the 240 upgrade, but there is an Elise 111R upgrade to the Elise SC that is sold by Lotus, this will give you about 220hp but has at present little room for upgrades due to the small SC and no intercooler.

Yes. That’s the official SC kit I was refering to.
It would be a good start, but not really anything to upgrade any further. Has anyone at least attmpted to tune the Elise SC?

Here is the link to Bell & Covill who can do the upgrade

Try Sinclaire Motorsport as I’m sure they were looking at it, but it would be very restricted due to the size of the SC and no IC as stated before. Could you not drive here for a holiday and come home with an upgrade?

Lol … Just what I was thinking…
“some scumbag nicked it officer… they added a few bits and I found it again !!!”

Sure that would be nice
I’ve been in touch with Sinclaires before ,they seem friendly enough
It’s a good a idea actually, but as you say, the results might be somewhat limited as to how much more power that can be extracted from the Elise SC kit. I’ll see what I end up doing.

The Sincs SC conversions don’t really notice unless you know what you are looking for, how would your local authorities know what has been changed\upgraded?

I’m sure that in the event of a claim the insurance inspector will look carefully for anything that could void the cover, leaving the OP high & dry and facing a conviction

I’ve been looking into the katana/ronin and the VF kits. But I’d really like the car to be approved with a supercharger. It isn’t just the authorities that I worry about, it is also in case of an accident the insurance company might become troublesome.

I’ve been thinking. Are there any (bigger/better)superchargers that migh be a bolt on replacement for the M45 used in the official Lotus kit?
(allowing continued use of the Lotus manifold)

None that i know of sadly :frowning:

I finally got around to calling the factory and it seems like it might be possible to convert to Exige S
Now the next question is to figure out how much it will cost in parts.
So where is the best place to get the parts from ?
The Lotus factory suggested I should get in touch with one of their dealers. I suspect getting the parts from a dealer might be a bit pricy so, any sources for secondhand parts around?
If I do have to buy from a dealer which one would you recommend?
