Are there any objective comparative lap times of an s1 and an s2 Exige on a range of tracks, with similarly skillful drivers, anywhere?
Thanks

“I don’t care who you are; that’s funny right there!”
we all know the latest lotus is always 10 seconds a lap quicker
Made me smile anyway

I think what our learned friend is saying that some information is irrelevant in the higher order of things, as they are different cars aimed at slightly different people and in the grand scheme of things times are just not important especially on a track, just blooming in enjoy them, they’re both Loti and very special (although S1s obviously more so).
I think he also says “Oi! Ian! Get off my opinions when I’m sounding off!”

I think that you might find that Evo has done it, because they always use a part of Jonathon Palmers Bedford Aerodrome for their timed tests? You might need to check their website.
The big problem is that everyone keeps adding mods, so to find an S1 & S2 with the same spec is going to be hard.

Exactly!
Bog standard S1 has less bhp than a bog standard S2, but it weighs less, has different gear ratios etc etc

Rubbish. They weigh the same if you take the roof off an S2.

Last time at a wet Snetterton An old Standard S1 driven by standard old Fart was quicker than an S2 that arrived on a trailor…maybe they should have taken it off the trailor…
Maybe the S1 was on proper wet tyres and the S2 was on A048’s - which I know from experience are quite slippery in the wet. Does it matter on a track day?

You’ve obviously never met our Mr Bean, the old fart with an S1, who’s tyres are even balder than his head The old git can drive a bit too
Of course driver ability will come into it too. It would need the same driver in both cars and the same conditions to get a valid comparison. I would suspect a good S1 with 190 bhp would be faster as it would have a better power to weight ratio, but each to his own and does it really matter unless they are actually racing against each other?
Seem to remember that in the hands of Lotus test drivers a standard S2 was about 1 sec quicker round the Hethel test track than a standard (presumably 177bhp?) S1, but I suspect that would be entirely down to the S2 being on stickier tyres. The average S1 I come across on track days seems to be going a bit quicker than the average S2 - perhaps because S2s attract a slightly wider audience, some of whom have less track experience?
Largely irrelevant anyway as pointed out above, the best track day car being the one which gives you the biggest grin rather than the quickest lap time, and both models seem to be pretty excellent in that regard

Yes, they’re called Race Results
Not enough in it to be of any relevance really. Depdends whose driving when it comes down to it.
Yes, they’re called Race Results
100% correct… in theory However, in UK there are no relevent race results - Tarmac Terrorist (Gav) was the only S2 in last year’s MESC, & his car was in the “Production Class”, whereas the S1s were in the “Motorsport Class” (because of their many mods). Gav is an extremely competent driver & it would have been interesting to see what times he would acheived in an S1.
PS Steve - have you decided anything about continuing racing in 2007?
