Classic Le Mans

Guys,

Is anyone heading to Classic Le Mans by anychance??

We’ve booked up so heres to hoping the Exige is back in the next week or two so it’s all run in

Me and the gf are going on the friday morning chunnel, back monday. Sorted tickets through NYLOC but still need to sort accomodation!

Gav

We booked it through grandstand motorsports…sorted out accomodation…tickets…ferry…the works.

Good luck in finding accomodation.

Did you have a good weekend Gav?

I loved it…fantastic expereience…

Great weekend.
Saw you go past Gav when we had stopped on way after getting lost on Friday.

Saw your car Gav at circuit

Good to meet Clive at Dover

Anyone on here own Laser Blue S1 reg M9? EXG - spotted in Arnage Friday - looks particularly good inside

The83Man:-
Thanks so much for your advice, made a big difference to the ‘experience’. The Frenchies were a bit bad about some of the signposting for the Arnage and Mulsanne viewing areas (didn’t get the final signs up until Sunday!) so scratched around finding only dead ends for a bit before finally finding ‘Nirvana’. Is there any way to get into ‘Rouge’ without having to pay 15 euros every time? the cheek of it!

Probably my memory, but there seemed to be more Ferraris going around, and therefore the general quality of the ‘noise’ went up from last time. Sorry to be boring, but seeing the 917s whizzing 'round really made the event for me.

How could we get an Exiges.com ‘club expirence laps’ arranged for 2012? Any ideas? Would be nice to drive around the whole circuit at over 90kph. Even better, there should be an Exiges.com invatation race to fill some of the gaps between the rounds.

My car ate the tent this year - pop up thing that numpty me stuck in the back - heat + long stressed GRP rods = lots of little GRP bits. As the camp site was rubbish, it was very hot this year, plus the need for ‘emergency tent buying’, I will need to find something a bit more luxurious for me and the missus next time.

SimonE:-
Great to meet you, and on the same ferry! What a coincidence. Hope you had a great time. Oh my god, Arnage, how surreal is that? You have to almost ignore lots of fanatastic stuff just to avoid wearing away your jaw on the floor so you can get to somewhere to eat. I saw the other elctric Blue Exige also on a couple of occasions driving around, and got a wave from the driver and his buddy.

Cheers,

Clive.

Clive,
With an Enceinte Generale ticket you should be able to go to any of the enclosures as far as I know. Is that what you had or did you have some other sort of ticket?

Don’t think so - weekend access, paddock access, and of course a camping ticket. Showed these to the guy at the gate, and 15 euros was still asked for.

What is the Enceinte Generale, what would it let you do, and what is the cost comparison against weekend access (45 euros) and paddock (30 euros) combined?

An Enceinte Generale was 45 this year if bought in advance through an organised club. This gives access to all the viewing areas and the Bugatti circuit/paddock complex. If you have a proper car (ACO consider all Lotuses to be proper cars) you also get a free car pass for the Bugatti Circuit clubs parking area. I don’t think I’ve ever been charged to get into the Tetre Rouge viewing area but then I’ve always bought Enceinte Generale…

That would be mine Simon  What were you driving?

Cheers Mike,

Sounds like an absolute bargain. Will sort out for next time. What do the ACO consider to be an organised club for us, LDC, Club Lotus?

Just need to get that Exiges.com demo sorted out then…

Thanks,

Clive.

My Exige was left in Blighty - went in Azure Blue S1 Elise.

Your Exige looks absolutely stunning - hope all your engine troubles are now solved

Hi Clive E
I spoke to you Friday evening hope you had a good time and got home OK.
Thanks for the info on the seal I checked and Dave said mine was held in place. I am going again in 2012 and am keen to get a few laps of the circuit so would be good to get a few of us together.

Paul

TBH, the 3 track laps are a complete rip off, with around 200 cars behind a pace car. It’s bloody expensive (over 100euros iirc), & loads of idiots out there, so you spend most of your time watching out they don’t crash into you. We did it in 2006, & had no desire to repeat the experience in 2008.

Much, much better to do a LOT trackday on the Bugatti circuit, & drive the public road sections of Mulsanne/Indianopolis etc when they’re quiet. The Bugatti is a gem of a circuit, & on a proper trackday you get a real feel of how fast the 24hr racers go!

I fully understand why anyone wants to drive the full race circuit - we were the same, but the reality of the 3 laps just doesn’t live up to expectations. I should also have mentioned that because of the numbers, the pace car sets off real slow, & only speeds up when the 200 cars are on track ie when pace car is 1/4 way down the Mulsanne. The 3rd lap is not a full lap, as that is also the exiting circuit lap. Only the 2nd lap is taken at a faster pace.

Here are a couple of shots from 2006. Note how I’m about to overtake the pace car and how Rob is way off line…

As I said above, I was keeping out of the way of the idiots behind (not you, of course, Mike)

Do you remember the pillock in the 911, who stopped on the Mulsanne straight to change places with his passenger, & the 3 911s which spun off the track?

The funniest thing was sitting in the grandstand, up at the Dunlop bridge later in the day, behind some PORSCHE DRIVERS who were all moaning about the fact that the f**cki*g lotuses were all over them in the bends… Funneee.

Yes had a good weekend thanks, even the g/f didnt seem too bored! Great weather. It seemed a bit quieter than 2008 which isnt a bad thing. I did the circuit laps, I know what pesky means, it was very busy although I did manage a blast on the Mulsane ‘straight’. Not cheap but as a one off I was glad I did it.
Glad everyone enjoyed the weekend.

Gav

Thanks Simon…It’s just nice to have it on the road again…still need to give it a thorough clean…which hopefully I’ll get round to doing this weekend

Yeah they seem to be finally…It’s been a knightmare process from start to finish though and at one point on the roadside…didnt think it would make it to LeMans :frowning:
