Carbon Lorraine Pads

You may recall that earlier this year I fitted brand new AP disks & CL5+ pads all round, shortly before doing a couple of trackdays - iirc I’d covered approx 1K gentle road miles before taking on track.

I ditched the 4 pot front pads immediately after trackdays in Anglesey - horrible pad transfer deposits, & great reduction in braking efficiency. I retained the rear CLs, as there were no signs of pad transfer, & as they seemed to be okay I thought I’d replace them when they worn out!

Last Friday, the Edwards Boyz serviced my car, & to our horror, this is what they discovered with one of the rear CL pads. Apologies for the low quality “phone camera” pics:

I will be very dissappointed if CL don’t do something to recompense me!

Ouch
That could have been nasty.
I doubt CL will be very interested as the CL pads are a competition pad marked not for road use!!!
Rob I will contact you privately to sort things with you as I supplied the pads…Sorry for the inconvenience.
Regardless of the ‘not for road use’ I will be contacting CL about this as IMHO thats not good.

Many thanks Dave - as ever, top class service, from a top bloke! Obviously, what happened was totally beyond your control, & no blame can be laid at your door. I do hope that CL will do the decent thing, & not hang you out to dry! In any event, they should be interested to try & understand what caused the problem. (None of the other 3 pads fitted at the same time show anything other than normal wear)

Thanks again, Dave.

I have to say I too have seen some deposits on the front Discs. If I’m honest I didn’t know what to make of these and whether they would effect braking performance.
I thought it would come down to the co-efficient of friction the deposit offered compared to steel. That gave me a headache and I thought no more of it. I’m interested to hear you considered it detrimental to brake performance. That probably seals the arguement unless anyone knows different. I’m also keen to hear from those that have used both CL5+s and PF’s and compare the two?(track use only). I will need to change my pads soon and had thought I’d continue with CLs as on the whole I’ve been pleased with them (certainly night and day compared to OEM)

Crikey, that’s awful!

Rob, are they all shots of the same pad? It looks to me as if the damage pattern is not the same in all photos.

Either way, not very comforting!

Without wishing to annoy anyone involved in the supply chain, these aren’t some cheap Chinese copy that have made their way into the sales logistics system somehow, are they? I don’t really care if they flood the market with counterfeit handbags but brake pads are a different matter…

Failing that, what have you been doing with the car?

Hi Peeps

Prior to trying the CLs, I had been perfectly happy with using PFs, apart from the well known “dust” problem until part worn. I have reverted to the excellent PFs, & can highly recommend them.

The photos are of the same solitary problem pad, taken with my phone camera - some shots using flash, but all under office florescent lighting. The other 3 pads fitted at the same time look absolutely fine, with normal wear.

As for useage since fitting early February - approx 4K miles including 2 dry, & I wet Anglesey trackdays (I only covered 36 miles on the wet day!).

As you can see, a huge chunk of pad has broken completely off the backing plate. I appreciate that this may be a “one off” freak incident, & I believe that Dave will bring it to CL’s attention.

Here are a couple more pics:

Not a one off Pesky!!! I had the exact same problem and had to fork out again for new pads as CL didn’t want to know.

As Dave, has said, these are sold ‘For Race Use Only’ so no come back.

I will be looking for somthing different in the future. Wouldn’t have minded if CL replaced the pads and it was a one off. But they didn’t and it wasn’t. BE WARNED

I would imagine they’d want to know, they’d be silly otherwise. Unless they know they fall to bits, and dont want to set an expensive precedent of replacing failed pads sets.

Thanks for that Mark.

PS Sorry didn’t get to chat with you & the new Mrs H yesterday - twas a cracking venue, & turnout :sunglasses:

These all look just like what happened to Neil’s CL RC5+ pads, just don’t tell Yvo or he’ll call you a lier. Your not allowed to comment on your experience of something he sell’s.
Top marks to Dave for the comments above, a man who clearly understands customer service and how to treat people.

Indeed, Andy - as do JSR, who also supply many parts to the Exige community in particular.

Same here, has happened twice! On the way back from Anglesey and last year while out on a hoon.

Neil.

Rob
Can I have the old pads back please?
Need to send them to CL.
and yes John , Wayne and Sean (JSR) are top chaps,They even treat me nicely (Dont tell Sean i said that LOL)

No probs Dave - I’ll post them tomorrow. Thanks again for your help.

Blimey, there’s a proper Exiges.com love in going on here!!!

True, but imho it’s important that we support the guys who know their stuff, & provide us with honest/reliable, & enthusiastic support.

PS My endorsements are only as a result of being an arms length customer, not as a beneficiary of “freebies”

PPS Are you & Mobbsy going to Spa? If so, I’ll speak with you about the “spares” you’ll be taking - thanks.

Sounds fair enough to me!!

Certainly the current plan, just had been copied on the ferry/hotel bookings for Spa. What spares do you need me take for you?

John

Believe it or not, a full set of PFs ie 4 pots, plus oem type rears - just in case!!! Also, Honda driveshaft/cv joints/gaitors/grease, & last but no means least oem size wheel bearings. Shouldn’t need any of the aforementioned, but if you have got space in the van…

We’re booked in here http://www.hotelbeausite.be/english/index.html where are you & Jonathan staying?

Which Spa trip is this?

Ade

LOT trackday on 29th Sept, followed by weekend watching the LOT/Dutch Supercar races.
