Brake Upgrade options??

What’s the best option for an upgrade to a Exige S ( 2008 ) with the 4 pot AP calipers?

My current set up is single piece drilled 308mm discs & Pagid RS42 pads. I do a few Trackdays, & find my brakes lacking.

I’m anticipating upgrading to separate discs & bells, but what is the preferred spec??

Cheers in advance.

You could try the pagid RS14 pads as they are more track focused than the 42s…

Relatively cheap / quick upgrade you could try.

Thanks for the reply. Tried the RS14s & had problems with pad transfer then brake wobble!! Hence now on the 42s which certainly seem better in that regard.

PF01’s…and a bucket & sponge then

What do you mean by ‘lacking’ as if you already have the 308 disks and calipers there isn’t much further to go. Assume that the car also has braided lines and SRF or other hi spec fluid.

Get one of these:

Or fit an Audi lump in the engine bay

decent pads and fluid should have you stopping well, if you have excessive pedal travel then braided hoses should remedy that, finally if you are still not happy like me, 2 pot calipers on the rear seem to make the feel and balance much better.

Oi !!

With regards PF pads on track in the dry they are very dusty but the dust washes off. In the wet mostly worse from new they leave almost unremovable skag deposits.

Who uses them just for road driving on here and what are they like to live with eveyday?

PF/SRF/Braided/4’s here, very happy.

Cheers guys.

I’ve always suffered with wobble when hot. I’ve noticed my holes fill up within a couple of sessions & I’ve already got spiderweb cracking around the holes & they’re only a year & a bit old.

Tempted by the grooved Alcon rotors with Ali bells. Any thoughts guys?

Pad wise, I’m generally happy with RS42s, but would the PF pads be a lot better. I don’t really use my car in the wet.

PF Pads Rock big time! Cracks are par for the course on grooved AP’s too. Maybe I get 18 months-ish to a set of dics maybe 10+ TD’s. There is no compromise IMO.

If youre at Brands this weekend pop to the trade area and say hello.(pitch11&12) Will have all the brake parts I sell with me so you can have a good look at AP,ALCON ETC ETC

I’d say most of the regular top ten Lotus Cup UK cars are on PF pads & discs.

Which discs are they using??

Production cars are using 295’s and the 2-elevens are using 308’s

anyone see those carbon brakes at brands last weekend?

certainly were light, and at 2180+vat they’re not that much more than say a set of steel rotors + floating bells and AP 4 pots

T

are those carbon ones in production? I spoke to their sales guy at bedford a few weeks ago and it sounded very development.

he didn;t seem to have much of a clue, said they went for the lotus market because someone lent them an elise as a test car

Think Dave at seriously lotus was looking at carbon brakes not so long ago, calling Dave!

Thats interesting, not heard that before.

I’m guessing I should change my drilled APs next spring as not only do I have the usual cracks spreading out from the holes, I also have small cracks in the non-drilled areas. I was hoping a switch to grooved discs would eliminate the risk of cracking!

For the mileage I do, I’ll probably just stick with the stock drilled 308mm APs and Pagid RS14s as I’ve been very satisfied with them over the last 3years.

yeah they had an elise on the stand sporting carbon front stoppers

discs weren’t massive, so wonder how they stack up against 308mm steel
