Practice needed… but proper driver training essential!
I’ve read this entire thread again and from what I can establish, the simple points are as follows:
-
The Lotus maps have the “learn” function left active whereas maps such as the Gotham do not. Therefore the Lotus map will learn and adapt to any changes.
-
The 260 ECU will adapt to accommodate the 4-1 manifold and the AFR’s will be within tolerance.
-
Remapping an aftermarket ECU is advised, however it is not necessary to remap a 260 ECU car. Remapping a 260 will refine the AFR’s but its not a requirement as it would be with an aftermarket map.
I understand remapping is big business, but if owners of 260 cars do not require a remap, then that information should be shared.
This has been a really interesting thread and I’m very interested to see the dyno results John gets
“- The 260 ECU will adapt to accommodate the 4-1 manifold and the AFR’s will be within tolerance.”
I’m not sure this is entirely true. The standard 190 ECU could adapt when owners added induction kits, sports ex-hausts…etc… However these cars didn’t make anymore power…just better noise.
This is the reason why Essex Autosport and Hangar111 released their Ronin and GT200 maps…to change the torque curves and adapt the ignition/fueling to make more power.
Sure, you don’t need a custom map but for the sake of a few hundred quid the gains normally make financial sense. I noticed a decent gain between the standard katana map and a custom map…
Seems silly to pay 650 for a 4-1 manifold and not have the fueling/ignition mapped to exploit the power.
Everything will be answered soon.
I’ve just bought a 4-1, de-cat and the new H2 Trackday GT3 from Jim for my standard car. Was planning to fit K&N induction then and post the ECU to be mapped by Sinc’s.
Has anyone bought a K&N recently and could point me at the best prices and website?
How about a TRD air box etc???
I think Jim said the Sinc map is for a K&N and 4-1. I’ll double check with Sinc’s if they ever respond back to me.
Hi I got a couple of questions…
Is it worth getting a 4-1 if you have a 220?
Is it a DIY fit or would you recommend a garage to do it?
Is the sport cat worth getting over the standard one?
cheers

Long answer here , but an honest one … imo
- on its own… no …but read on …
2)yes … takes time to get the standard stuff off tho .
3)not got proof yet , but I suspect yes !
I,ll expand …
There are many things that the standard 220 benefits from …just fitting a 4-1 is probably the worst thing you can do on its own.
Upon getting hold of a nice 220 the route I chose is as follows…
2)Intercooler/chargecooler…either just do it!
3)better intake …TRD or K/N
4)A proven fuel delivery upgrade …CN or Sincs
5)Finally an Ecu that will bring the above together as a working package …
you might notice I omitted step 1 …
A pre-requisite to 300+ bhp has got to be an LSD and an updated clutch (helix in my case)…JSR get em …
Whilst being a fantastic header , just bolting one on cannot do magic…
Ps … I left the fitting of a 4.1 header until all of my other steps had been done for good reason .
A good 4.1 can (and does) make a vast change to a motor …That’s why they are made and still have an aura of “black art” about them …
They can seriously upset standard inadequate fuel/ignition settings …
But if you want perfection then do the work !!
Told you it was a long reply !
- forge
- makes Fook all difference !!!
4)pump is important … standard one when new is close to its limit …when its 30,000 miles down the road would you trust it to deliver its original flow ?
For the price and peace of mind I suspect a change is worthwhile ?
…
As for maps … Jeez … its a battlefield !@
With the best will in the world the standard car will never accommodate much in the way of extra power cos it simply ain’t got the hardware …
By hardware I mean cold charge air / fuel delivery … with only 60 odd % throttle opening …
the Factory knew it too …
Then they birthed the 260 !!
…
With this the fun begins …
Cool, that’s good enough for me.
Cheers for the info mate.
When I changed my manifold to the 2bular my 240 felt like it lost power when driving , It felt lumpy and just not on song , when I spoke to Jim he said give it a few hundred miles and the ECU should learn so I did but my car stayed the same .
I decided to take it to Sincs for a bespoke map , they said the car was running really lean and the adjustment needed wasn’t in the range of the % that the ECU can learn .
They also said that the standard 240s & 260s run lean flat out on there dyno even before a manifold change .
I have to say my car runs so much better now and I’m sure my ECU would never have sorted itself out on it’s own .
Nice one, good advice, I was going to get the intercooler done until my insurance said they wouldnt cover it. So I will have to wait till May when I can change provider.
So far have stage3 and TRD, both made lots of differences in drama… cant wait to start doing some real mods, I love this car, I was thinking about getting rid of it until I got the other half to take it out and I followed it in her car, it looked the dog doodars on the road and sounded mint.

Well we will find out in a couple of weeks and put it to bed one way or another.
My missus drove my exige a few weeks ago and I know what u mean…she looked awesome and I fell in love with her all over again… Wifey looked alright too
Or the new MMG Stage 1 intercooler…which I’m back to back testing against the Forge jobbie tomorrow. Results along shortly. Sure it will be very close but who knows…

So what is the golden AFR number for our cars ? even that seems to be a grey area .
Also what injectors do the 260s use over the 240s ? I was told to get some RC550s in as there juicy , are they the best option ?
The 260s run the same Lotus 440cc injectors, you only need 550cc when you are north of 300hp
As for AFR under full load I would not want to be any higher than 12.5 I would rather sacrifice a bit of power for safety
Ade - are you sure? my 440 injectors are maxed out at 270 ponnies according to Wayne @ Sincs.
