Hey all just after some help… i use my exige alot on the road and less on the track am looking at getting another set of wheels to put some normal road tyres on just woundering whats the best set of tyres to get that arnt a048 or R888 and whats the best price u have had for the ao48 as mine are nearly down to 2mm cheers
R888s are excellent on track and surprisingly good in the wet on track also in my experience but how that relates to everyday driving on UK roads Im not too sure…but I suppose if you go for road tyres youll just shag them on track soon as! Get road tyres and a nice second hand set of R888’s as it only costs 40-50 to do a full change both ways! Or two sets of alloys…second hand TD’s 300. I get my R888’s from Hanger 111 btw.
thanks jonny think am gonna go for r888 think its a rip off what lotus have done by having to go to them for the a048 got told 800 for a set…
just been on hanger 111 and they are more expensive on there if ur in the uk use camskill.co.uk send them an email and they will get in touch they quoted me 96.45 for front and 142.45 for rear each that is

The 48s supplied by “Lotus” (& marked “LTS”) are of a different compound/carcass to the 48s supplied by Camskills etc.
R888s are way more preferable imho, as the fronts don’t go out of balance (as do the 48s) & they’re considerably cheaper.
However, only racing gods “will” find a difference between any of the above, & then that would be marginal eg tenths of secs on a lap time.
SeanB is a racing god, & he swears by the 48s used by him & fellow competitors in the LOT Series…
cheers Mr P… i think am going for the R888s like u said only race drivers will notice the difference in them… thanks for the help.
possibly a daft question but what sort of size alloys and offset am i looking for if i was going to get another set for track use?
Damaged my rear Advans at Donnie & need to get a new pair - this time I’m going to try the Toyos.
Any problem with Toys rr & Advans front???
Cheers
Mark
I have some S2 alloys for sale
PM me for details.
strangly some one turned up at my work today with a MK2 exige they had Toyo T1R on are these a good tyre for day to day road use?
I need to get a full set of R888s before Markyb and I drive off round Europe, thanks for the advice.
If you need some alt alloy examples go to techwiki on Seloc. Again Hanger 111 sell TD’s I have spare set for road. Mostly now run TE-37’s. Check out Tims also tho matey.

Meh, i’m no racing god and I can tell the difference. I’m just tight so I run 888’s.
I don’t think it’s possible to balance a 48 for very long. If you look at the dot to valve distance before and after a trackday it seems to spin around on the rim a couple of inches each day.
These guys are normally quite cheap:
Just need to be careful of offsets so they don’t send you k-series wheels.

I hope so, I have a set in the garage waiting to be fitted next week

But you drive an Elise Coupe! Plus you run with loose wheel nuts
Seriously though, I think you can only do a true comparison on the same test day (not trackday), starting with brand new sets of both types of tyres. Either way, I’m sticking with the Toyos

I’ve never used T1R’s (in fact I’ve only ever run AO48’s, AO39’s or R888’s on Elises/Exiges) but quite a lot of people do seem to run them. They appear to get mixed reviews, but generally they seem fine. I’m sure they would make a perfectly good road tyre. Yoko AO39’s offer the best of all worlds, but they are hideously expensive and don’t last long!
Neal.
i had AO39s on my MK1 which i have to say i liked but as you say bit steep price wise
currently running 48s on my MK2 but would prefer to have a more all round road tyre
cheers lads for the help got a set of R888 coming to me for a nice price of 434 balanced + fitted…
I can confirm that T1Rs are fine for road use - ideal in fact as they work well on greasy and very wet surfaces. They are not good for track days though - they slide quite a lot compared to 39s and really don’t offer anything like te right level of confidence for a track day.
