Best tyres for the Exige...

I do prefer the A048 Medium’s from an all out grip point of view, but I also could not believe how good R888’s were in the wet on the road. If I was using my car on the road I would deffo go 888’s for all the reasons grandad has said.

Did the latter part of the Donny track day in flooded conditions and the 888 just kept on gripping…

Until I got too brave and promptly aquaplaned off at Melbourne!!!

Anyway… who drives there Exige in the wet!!!

T1R’s are crap. worst tyres I’ve had on the Exige, and I even went for lower profile fronts to try and stop the sidewall flex but it didn’t help much.

For road use I’d recommend the Continental Sport Contact 2’s I’m currently using.
They don’t have the hideous sidewall flexing of the T1R’s and work pretty well in the wet. Did the recent Mallory Park trackday on them and other than lacking in ultimate grip and a touch less confidence inspiring on the entry to Gerrards than AO48’s they didn’t do too badly (until the temp warmed up and they went off after 15mins)

Damaged my rear Advans at Donnie & need to get a new pair - this time I’m going to try the Toyos.

Any problem with Toys rr & Advans front???

Cheers

Thats what i’m running at the moment and find the toyo’s slide more on track than the Advan 48’s but it’s controllable,a bit like karting.

I always find that 48’s rears give very little feedback and just seem to go to the limit and snap/spin you round before you/me has chance to correct it.

And thats the set up i’m sticking with lol
If your not getting decent feedback from your AO48’s then you probably need to look at pressures and Geo as I’ve certainly never had any issues with feedback on AO48’s.

If you arent in to trackdays and just want an ok tyre that will last forever and be ok on the road, go for the toyo T1R. They are awfull on the track, but I didnt have any moments on the road with them. They lasted forever as well.

what do you all think to the micheline F1’s ? heard some good reviews about them sticking in the wet but i suppose they are more a road tyre not track…

Well ive had my Exige nearly 7yrs and many sets of 048s and my personal choice is the Toyo R888s
Not knocking your personal choice, but still don’t understand your lack of feedback on AO48’s, I’ve never had an issue on mine, and been running them for 5-6 years.

Sorry, I think they are awful on the road as well, they don’t work for the 1st 500 miles and even then they destroy the steering feeling and feedback, I think steering feel and feedback is more important on the road as you encounter such a varied range of surfaces and grip levels.

SP41 Aquajets

I’ve always found that the A048’s move around after 10 laps or so,particularly when the track temp. is high but never found this to be a problem.

Ash, thats a good price for supply and fit, are they GG compound? Which company are you using, I need some myself.

Cheers,
Tony.

Steve at Simply Tyres is running an offer of beating Camskill prices on 888’s atm.

ive got them through bush tyres… a friend of mine owns a garage and he has got them for me with out discount they would of been 548 i think

Nice one! We all need a friend like him!

Cheers,
Tony.

going for T1-Rs tomorrow, just for a potter around for a little while as the 888s are gonna take upto 3 weeks :frowning: and ive just touched the marker on the tyres… so i shall see how they are

t1r’s are ok. If you drive hard on the road you will probably have issues, otherwise you will probably find them ok. they are better in the wet than in the dry. I hated them but I spent most of my time on track so …

T1Rs work quite well after Andy Walsh has spent about 20 minutes scrubbing them in for you. The only down side was they weren’t entirely legal to drive home again afterwards.

well the t1rs are only for road use… when i drive to work its down counrty roads and i like to drive hard and brake late into cornors and get the most out of the drive so went through the advans very quickly… got some r888s on order so waiting for them to come then its another set of alloys for trake days etc… if u know anyone selling any let me know i am interested

Bloody hell Ash I ordered my R888s today after a little panic seeing your 3 week post lol Anyway mine are here Tuesday from a local source although have not confirmed a price…yet?

I know they have my rear tyres waiting for me but its the fronts they dont have… am happy to wait for them with a price of 438ish fitted and balanced… its good 200 lower than most places round my area. i think i will see how they go then um n rr weather to go back to the A048s…

Had my T1Rs on for 4 hours and i dont like them already lol to much give in the tyre wall… just cant feel what the car is really doing but i didnt buy them to drive quick on the road so i cant complain just cant wait to get some slicks back on
