Best mods

Ave got my car booked in for the stage 1 exhaust and the cup air box but what other good mods are out there, am new to the lotus mods orginally had BMW minis tuned to high heaven but lotus engines are well new, also does anybody know where you can get carbon fibre interior from

So modifications depends on what you want to achieve.

Most people start with a better noise and go induction/sports exhaust.

Then most people visit a track so they pop on semi slick tyres and upgrade their brakes.

Then most people realize they can’t drive on track so get tuition.

Then people get a bit better and upgrade their suspension.

Then people realize their car isn’t fast enough in a straight line so they remap their ECU and increase boost levels.

Then people realize their cars are too heavy and then spend loads of money lightening it.

The people’s gearboxes begin to break and so they need to upgrade that.

Carbon interior try reverie, but they are very expensive.
I don’t want to be critical but, I wouldn’t fit a stage 1 exhaust, if it’s anything like the original N/A stage 1, it’s not much of an improvement over standard, sorry don’t want to be negative just give you a heads up

For UK based firms carrying Carbon goodies try googling Hanger 111 and also Elise parts.

For US based firms try googling Sector 11 and RLS (really light stuff). There are other firms out there (such as MMG Performance and Sinclairs in Essex that also provide parts but dont show them on their websites so call them for prices, etc.

For mods it all depends on what you want to spend. Best bang for buck in terms of extra power is defo your intercooler. Replace it with an uprated MMG one (or other brand) and you’ll instantly see more power and banish some of the heatsoak. If you want to spend a little more then go for a chargecooler and you’ll see even bigger gains plus it will give you a better chance of prolonging your engine should you decide to tune it further.

I’d cancel your order for a Lotus stage 1 and go for a 2bular exhaust (google them) and panel eliminator kit. It’ll look and sound great plus will save lots of weight too. Stick with having the cup air box fitted though.

Easily the cheapest mod is fitting the Powerflex insert bushes, you’ll instantly feel that the car is more direct and alert with improved gearchange, a great mod for 40’ish.

Oh and I’ll get the phrase in before anyone else …(Pesky)… driver training is also useful.

I’d also say “check with your insurance company that they will cover you for mods”. IN NO CIRCUMSTANCES WHATSOEVER carry out any mods without notifying your insurers.

I hope my driving should be ok ha driven karts for 5 year got lots of bad habits mind and had quiet a few lessons in single seats but Ye wanting more, so is the stage to shall we say s#%t then

What is your car i.e. 220 or 240?

Lotus matt carbon interior ala cup 260 will set you back 5-6K :astonished:

Err yes you’ve hit the nail on the head

2bular good exhaust then, it’s a 220

2bular for noise, they do versions that look like standard so are much more insurance friendly as a stainless steel exhaust rather than a performance mod. Then some training and decide what you need next as a track car, you might be fast through the corners so need more power, or last of the late brakers so need better brakes, only time will tell, but if normal ownership is anything to go by you will end up with most if not all of the above suggestions

It is … just don’t have parcelforce deliver it !!!
Still waiting for mine :tired:

Parcelforce+snow = hell :frowning:

Thing is Ade … I drive an artic EVERY weekend up past Edinburgh and not once have I got stuck ! The snow is just a good excuse for their failures as a carrier …
Thread hijacking over … sorry .

No if I told you what I did well ad be hated by every vehicle on the road and it’s not a traffic warden haha, Er am starting to thing stage 1 and air box not best idea I want something that sounds good when I give it the beans but on motorway not give me ear ache ha

It’s a slippery slope…power definately corrupts.

I only popped out to buy a magic tree air freshner and ended up having to ebay the kids to pay for my mod obsession.

I dont regret it for a minute tho…the car feels so unimaginably quick now I find myself scared/thrilled everytime a clear road presents itself and I floor it…it’s a totally different animal now.

Still…now I need to get some track time in and learn to drive it as Lotus intended. Have to admit that it would have made a lot more sense to do this before I started tinkering.

I love the sound of the spec of your car - is the pulley, injectors etc from Monkeywrench? Who did the work and the mapping?

You soon get used to 300BHP and big brakes and always end up wanting more.

Warning: this modding lark is never ending !!

A 2bular exhaust is proven to give you power increases. I’ve seen three cars dyno’d with a 2bular now and they have all seen increases. The standard Lotus exhaust does not give any power increases in my experience.

2bular :sunglasses: Lotus stage whatever

Injectors and fuel pump from MWR, pulley and belt from Sinclairs, exhaust from 2bular and everything else from MMG who also fitted all the parts. Final mapping was done on the dyno at Sinclairs.
