Bell&Colvill on the brink of p1ssing me off

just took a call… seems the stage2 ISN’T supported on the ExigeS… this after a weld on it failed… no mention of this fact made when the car was sold to me

actually quite F*CKED off as:

  1. if i fit aftermarket, it wont be covered by warranty, and might invalidate current warranty
  2. my exact comment when i test drove the standard car was ‘great car but much too quiet’
  3. they are now fitting the standard exhaust back to the vehicle with no ETA as to when an official upgrade will be available
  4. there is now a stage2 template cut in my undertray

why on earth the sales team weren’t aware of lack of exhaust upgrade for the ‘S’ is beyond me

developing…

(let’s see if B&C can bounce back)

They also told me the Stage 2 was available, I was a little surprised as the Stage 2 for the ‘S’ won’t be available until at least April.

do you have that on good authority? if OFFICIAL that would actually make me a little less pissed off.

i cant say for sure, but if i had known the stage2 was not available until April then I would probably have waited till then to swap my standard exige for the new S (complete with 07 plate).

i want a significantly louder, official, covered-by-warranty exhaust and I am very disappointed that B&C misled me. Search my posts and you will see that I wax lyrical about their service etc. This has been a big (and negative) shock.

Does anyone know how much a stage2 costs as I will be seeking this amount refunded by B&C immediately.

I think that a stage 2 supplied, fitted and VAT is the best part of 450-500.

You may have got a better deal on the car change doing it now instead of in April.

  1. there is now a stage2 template cut in my undertray

Ask for a new undertray.

Have you spoken to B & C in a calm/polite manner about the situation? If so, what was the response? If not, I suggest that you give it a go. Unfortunately mistakes do happen, no matter how hard we try avoid making them, & I’m sure that B & C didn’t deliberately intend to mislead you.

At the end of the day, it appears that sooner or later an “official” silencer will be available to replace the one you’ve already paid for, & unless that doesn’t need the undertray cutting, then I wouldn’t worry about having that item replaced now. I would be surprised if a highly respected dealer, such as B & C, will not be able to put a smile back on your face as soon as practicable - ie once the correct product is available.

valid point, but already done. Not only are they unable to explain how the mistake happened (sales guy is away), but they can offer no info as to if/when a replacement will become available.

it is so very easy to use the ‘mistakes do happen’ mantra but ultimately if they are the premier Lotus dealer (which I still believe they are) then this sort of thing just shouldnt happen. Where do you draw the line - reccomending the wrong tyres? wrong fuel? At what point does an innocent mistake become negligence?

I am left out of pocket, with a car that already has numerous other issues to fix (not a big deal) - even once they are all fixed I will be left with a motor that is not nearly as much fun as my previous Exige. Why should I be expected to shoulder this cost?

This is a dealer who I usually have nothing but praise for, in fact at least one fellow member has bought a car as a direct result of my reccomendation.

this wont be rectified until April at the earliest, and according to Lotus Sport who I rang earlier, even that date might be a little enthusiastic.

Suggest you have a couple of beers, get a good night’s sleep, then reconsider the position tomorrow

Just an idea, and Im not sure of the details, but this bloke here has changed his exhaust to a 2bular and it still appears to be covered under warranty.

Like I said, Im not sure of the details, but might be worth looking into…

well they delivered it back to me (quite pleasing given its usually an hours drive away) complete with standard exhaust

not being funny but its a completely different experience and not in a good sense. Maybe i’ll get used to it, and i guess it will make the motorway trips more bearable

but quite frankly i stand by my test drive comments “great car, way too quiet”

waiting for sales guy from B&C to return next week before discussing with him. Not sure whether to ask for cash back or free credit for if/when the official S stage2 is released.

on a better note the leaking windows seem to have been fixed. oh and the exhaust whiffs so its definitely a new one.

See, I told you things would be better after you’d had a kip

now fit a good exhaust like the 2bular

Exigeboy… its a problem all us ‘S’ boys are facing, I too love my car to bits, but the soudtrack is less than inspiring. As me dad says “it dont sound as good as it looks does it”

I would go down the Tubular route but to be honest I’d prefer an official Lotus product but thats purely because I dont like fitting 3rd party products. Thats not a critisism of the 2bular products, from what Ive heard and seen they are a great product.

Lotus have been very quiet when it comes to upgraded parts for the ‘S’ and its about time they started delivering products, an exhaust being the main priority. The car has been out for nearly a year now and they are well overdue.

Isn’t almost all of an Exige a 3rd party product, especially the exhaust (Janspeed?) which is made to a cost more than a real performance specification?

2bular or Janspeed - I know who has the better reputation.

Maybe you S2 boys are different, but for the S1 chaps having an Exige is really just the start of things…

Oh yes definately the way to go, looks good and a great soundtrack

Personally I can’t see any reason to be hung up on having an official Lotus exhaust on the car. The Lotus Stage 1 and 2 for the NA cars are not especially good quality, and there is no reason to believe the official one for the S will be any better when it arrives. 2bular quality is top notch on the other hand - and the warranty thing is a complete red herring too. It would only invalidate your warranty if the fault you were trying to get fixed was directly attributable to the aftermarket part (I believe this is the official line from Lotus BTW), and how is that ever going to be the case with an exhaust? In the past B+C have even fitted their own non-official brand of exhaust to K series cars with no warranty issues I have ever heard of.

Correct why pay double the price for a lotus one which

A: will still be lower quallity
B: stage 2 will not meet track days regs DB wise
C: will prob weigh twice as much
D: will lot last as long.
e: will have no resale value

If you want a exhaust just buy a 2bular

Get Bell & Coalville to buy and fit the 2bular exhaust and get them to guarantee the car with the exhaust they have fitted as its their problem !

Agree with the above - just fitted (last night) a 2bular Ultra 4.75" and decat to my NA exige - sounds awesome and is beautifully made. Will post some pics when I am at home.
