Just mate and I mean just. I actually put the extinguisher closer which it isn’t usually looking at other images but yes the fire putter outter no problem…It’s where Lotus put theres and anyway if I can’t hopefully so nice chap in an S1 behind me can pull over and press the externals

Bloomin hell m8 … you’ll be fried to a crisp by the time any old S1’s get to you !

That’s my man…WOO WOO

Just to aid my experiance mate, when my car broke its crank and threw a rod with the original VHPD. I heard the bang on the engine blowing up and literally within 3 or 4 seconds I couldn’t see ANYTHING inside the cabin there was that much smoke!!! I had to open the door so that I could let some of the smoke out so I could see the grass at the side of the track and pull off the circuit. Thank god when I threw my hand forward in the general direction of my extinguisher button, it hit the mark first time!!!

I just need to clarify now the new seats are in, I can reach these buttons no problems.

I’m just thinking about where to locate the Cartek on my S2. I may mount it in the boot with the earth lead back to the chassis from the unit back plate. I’m wishing I had fitted it before putting the rear clam shell back on.

Looking at the wiring diagram I’m running a new earth wire from the battery to the terminal on the unit. When fitting the Cartek to the rear chassis where exactly do you run the original battery earth lead to? Should this be attached to the units mounting bolts to make a good earth or is it redundant?

My understanding from the wiring diagram was that the secondary smaller positive battery leads need to go through the two posts on the unit? Is that correct?

I recall it being a much simpler job on my S1 but it’s a few years since I did it.

I never did get aroung to posting up the wiring diagram…just about to fly so will do it later tonight or tomorrow but you should be able to mount the Cartec under the airbox. Drill holes and mount using a riv-gun this is doable with the clam on. Later…

Ok so first I faxed Cartek the wiring diagram and got this back.

Earth is straight forward, take it off the chassis onto the Cartek…However (not having this info to hand) I took a new lead from the battery to the cartek and the original lead I took from the battery and attached it to the chassis rear earth point…in a loop !

Cartek on the chassis. Ignore the red battery lead, a previous failed attempt. Notice the blue wires…

Battery Pos and power to fuel/Ign

I worked out I couldn’t get to the Live post(2) top left easily as it is somewhere under the dash, so I broke the live wire on the back of the ignition barrel taking 1 back to the Power Fuel/Ign and 2 back to Battery Positive on the Cartek. (USE THE CORRECT SAME SIZE WIRE)

A few images of the Postive wiring route…

Job Done!

That helps. Thanks for taking the time to add all the details.

I’m not looking forward to removing the airbox it’s going to be a pain!

Also it looks like I’m going to have to remove the centre trim again for the 3rd time to run another set of wires to the ignition. After the initial install I relised that I needed independent wiring for both kill switches, not a parallel circuit like the fire switch (doh!).

It was much easier on the S1 with everything in the front under the bonnet. But that’s a small price to pay for the benefits of an S2

For the airbox (na std or ITG) mine comes straight out the top, bit of a squeeze. Or take off the rear wheel arch liner.

No probs, glad it helps.

Jonny, can you let me know what the external diameter of the switch rings is. Thanks mate!

Do it this evening Gra.

84mm outer diameter…just checking but that’s not the cut hole right?

What do you want it for if you don’t mind me asking and incase I can help?

You offering to get the dremel out Jonny

That’s great, thanks Jonny! Yes, outer diameter.
Now the FEV’s in weighing up options for external swiches. Will also be fitting a Cartec over the winter.
