Cartek from here and extinguisher from here. Just a bit about the extinguishers…check out the prices the Lifeline stuff is SO cheap. Go compare with Demon Tweeks etc they’re peanuts! I’ve picked up the 2.25L Electrical for 250inc, hell the Mechanicals only 90inc and the 4.0L only 150 and 250!
Moving on, I’ll be fitting these as soon as I get a call back from Lotus Motorsport about the extra bits I need so just to ask if any of you guys could post a few pictures regards fitting. In particular where to mount the battery isolator, cable and piping to and form…Any help would be appreciated tar
Firstly - I presume that you’ve gone for the “foam” type electrical extinguisher? I wouldn’t if I were you - make a terrible corrosive mess if they go off. Much better to get a “gas” type eg Lifeline 360 (As I’ve pointed out before, the FEV from MSAR is your best bet!)
Secondly - were Demon Tweeks really cheaper than MSAR for the Cartek?
Moving on,
These may be of help (on the other hand, you appear so far to be following Fatcat’s advice ):
Well I haven’t actually got the extinguisher yet mate, I’m still waiting for a call back from Lotus. I just wanted to keep it the same as what they supply at Lotus (albeit 4.0L which is too heavy)… You go and mention corrosive and I’m having second thoughts but for 250 it’s such a bargin mmm
Thanks for the images mate, anyone got any S2 stuff also?
Jonny - for the sake of a couple hundred quid, forget about fookin foam filled extinguishers - they don’t work as well either in an emergency…but after all, it’s only your life, & your pride & joy that are potentially at stake
Rob - does your set up include a separate isolator to prevent some passing prat doing the obvious?
Yes & no!
The extinguisher has a seperate on/off switch in the cabin, so can only be triggered (either from inside or outside)when switched on.
However, the electrical cut-out doesn’t have such an overide over the interior & exterior trigger buttons, so in theory a prat could “kill” the car at traffic lights from outside the car, & I would have to reset it from inside. The chances of that happening are somewhat less than me $hagging Britt Eklands 25 year old grandaughter
Yes. I’ve only ever turned it off from in the car but the external switch is essential, so it must!
Btw, the “off the record advice” fron the mechs at my Lotus dealer is if it burns and you get clear LET IT BURN! It’s such a PITA reapiring fire damage that it’s simpler to just let it do the write-off job well from the start! They told me how one guy phoned when his caught fire and their helpful tip screamed repeatedly and enthusiastically into the phone was the above phrase
All good stuff thanks…in relation to the isolator box I can’t quite tell where yours is Rob not being an S2 and Honda’d, anyone got advice on that also…maybe a picture.
I had presumed the piping and wires were in the gear box shroud
Isolator - battery is in the OEM position for a non aircon S1 Exige (front compartment). In an aircon S1, the battery sits higher, as it has gubbins for the aircon underneath.
Sorry the pics are not too helpful for the S2 guys…
You’re a dark horse you are Neil That is cool, I’m liking it allot!
FYI from earlier: Few things, just spoke to Lotus motorsport, the system they use now is 4.0L electrical not mechanical that’s confirmed. As a consequence the external rings only need to be the smaller type as the mechanical pulley has been replaced with a small switch. And lastly the ring now features a cap that can be screwed on to prevent some mindless tosser from pressing the buttons if driving on road! The caps are 28.43 and the rings 27.
That’s not mine it’s Elgans from hot-lap. If it was mine i’d have put the electric isolator on the passenger side to make sure I didn’t press it with my leg.
Vas es das?..What prevention does the lifeline have, anyone know? Also still anyone got info/images on where to put the Cartek Isolator on S2 chassis?
i’ve got mine on the chassi at the n/s rear just in front of the wheel arch i’ts right by the main engine earth and not far from the battery plus if you plan to put the switch in the qtr panel like pesky it’s just below
