At last!!

After what seems like an age (3 weeks in fact), my broken Exige is finally back on the road

Lakeside seem to have done a top job - it came back nice and clean and with a full tank of petrol It is also idling much better and not stalling as before (touch wood)

The bill??

3228.22…

That included:

New crank
New conrod
Bearings
Oil pump
Cam belt
Motorsport clutch

The moral?? Always check your oil regularly, especially on track days…

TT

Ouch! At least you’ll be able to do wheelspins now though (there’s always a bright side!).

Ian

Excellent! (and ouch!)
Remember to run it in properly, and it will last a loong time.
hope to see you at the tracks soon.

Uldis

Bit of a sore one that TT, but what are ya gonna do?? at least youve got it back and pretty quick too… enjoy…

OUCH! - how much???

take a look at This page

I recon total parts bill should be something like 400-500, and ~12-15 hours labour.

Simon - you really know how to cheer someone up

Glad you’re back on the road though and see you round the sunny streets of Reigate ro Redhill - that’s 3 Exiges I know of within about 2 miles of each of other as I met a guy on the Exiges Sothern meet a couple of weeks back who lives near Wray Common - trouble is I’m crap with names !!

David

Simon - you really know how to cheer someone up

Hey,

I’m not the one handing out 3K+ bills!

I can’t belive people just take it and pay up?

Fair point

[A diplomatic reply we can all get behind (perhaps)]

It would have been much more aT Bell & Colvill a few miles down the road!

That gives a std crank price of 150

A VHPD crank is 650 + VAT alone…

When I get the invoice I will put more detailed prices for people to digest…

And anyway, it was done by a reputable Lotus specialist (Lakeside) so I have reason to think they would deliberately try to rip me off…

Cheers mate!

We’ll have to get a mini-meet sorted or something!

Err - and every man and his dog knows NOT to use the VHPD cranks as they are prone to snapping…

As for why such a bill, could be because they knwo that Exige owners will pay it!

Lakeside would have only put in a VHPD crank and nowt else…

Every man and his dog?.. Well not me I’m afraid… I’d only had the car 2 weeks ffs, so how am I supposed to know every in and out of the K series

I was rather pissed off and just wanted to get the car back on the road

Even DVAPower were saying (and quoting) the same repairs and same sort of money

Once the car was in with Lakeside there was very little I could do as I could not move it anywhere else without loads of inconvenience and cost

TT

Don’t worry Tomato,

you did at the time what you had to do.
You are obviously a newcomer to the Exige and could not possibly know where to get the cheapest prices.
Hell I don’t think most of us would know either, it’s not something that happens everyday.

Simon appears to know everything (although he seems to have a handicap communicating).
Perhaps we should pass through him every little thing we do to our car so that we are sure we are making the correct decision (amongst all the wolves out there)?

Or get together and buy him a sensibilization course?
Or anger management?
…Psychiatric?

TT, enjoy your car, treat it well hop eto see you soon at a track.

Is it true that Simon S. been banned from this site?
He’s posting that here and here

I mean, I don’t like the guy (and I get the impression he doesn’t like me) but on some sort of masochistic way I still want to read his answers…

< edited cos some silly boy posted his login url ! >

Yes Uldis he be banned.

I didn’t want him on the site any more.

Hi TT

Dont worry about Simon he loves to shake things up a little
(he is quite excitable )

I spoke to my technicians about this and they told me that it sounded a reasonable price for the work you mentioned.

Even tho’ they are our direct competitors I would cannot say that I have heard anything bad about Lakeside Engineering. I am sure that your car has been in good hands.

Gill
@Sinclaire

Me like TurboTomato being a newcomer to Exiges.com and not knowing many of you chaps, I find it quite strange someone would ever want to criticize someone for how much they paid just to get their car back on the road.

We all end up in these situations from time to time and simply have to pay sometimes large amounts of money out just to get our pride and joy back on the road.

The last thing we need is some guy saying you could have got it cheaper here or you shouldnt have done it that way after the event!

So far Ive met some really genuine top people from this site who would go out their way to help you if you were in trouble and think anybody who is simply here to cause grief shoul **** off

Dont know who the guy was but nice one Mr Admin for banning them!

Great to see such an even handed post by Gill @ Sinclaires.

I’ve used both Sinclaires and Lakeside and they are both superb - I happen to live closer to Lakeside so geography tends to dictate where I go.

The initial post did seem a bit OTT if not defamatory about Lakeside who I have always found to be good value, easier to deal with some main dealers I could mention and have never done unneccessary work on my cars over the last 3 years that I have used them - lets hope this all dies down now and no-one is put off from using them as a result.

My Exige will still be going to them.

I am involved in another online Lotus Enthusiasts Club and know moderation can be hard but I would not have banned the individual concerned for what it’s worth - as the opinion of a newish Exiges.com member.

David R

Nah, you didn’t wind Simon up.

Personally, I do hope that Simon “rejoins” - he has a lot to offer. We all know what he’s like when he posts, but I believe he usually says it with a smile on his face
