Anyone know this car

Hello
I m thinking about making a moves towards viewing and all being well buying this Exige - I was curious if anyone knows it, knows any history, and in gernal do you think from your guys advanced knowledge if it looks like a good buy at 20k?

Thanks James

looks a good spec
probably find the reason it hasn’t sold is because of its colour, green was not a loved colour for some reason

Sounds good and a relatively low mileage. Notice from the picture that it also has an aftermarket rear diffuser fitted, so maybe the advert spec misses some other goodies as well. Given the braided hoses and RS14 pads maybe the disks have also been upgraded - hopefully to some ali-belled ones!

Note that the cat 1 alarm and A/C were standard fitments for this age of car.

Assume that the racing seats and harnesses refer to the original factory upgrade or are they aftermarket?

Would be interested to ask the owner if they have any of the pre-upgrade parts - original exhaust, 2 cone airfilters, rear diffuser, etc; and find out whether it is catted or not.

Also like the colour, I have some original Lotus press shots which were this colour (or a variation of it) but with gold wheels. A killer combination.

Yeah looks a nice car.

I quite like the colour actually, never seen one like that before.

Sean…

A few more details/pictures are here

http://www.lotusrepairs.com/# (go to the vehicle sales its the last car - price has been reduced from this original optimistic pricing)

I appreciate its not in S1 owners best interest but I will be joining your ranks in the new year so would appreciate your help, do you think I can get better for the money? I thought it was a high spec and good mileage car for the money but concerned I m not kicking myslef in 6 weeks when 3 190bhp similar spec cars go on the market and 2k less! Is there anything else about anyone knows of similarly interesting. I want to buy the best I can like everyone…

Looks a nice car. No harm in in ringing the guy to ask some obvious questions before going to see it. What mods, what type of use, which dealer/specialist has been looking after it etc…

Where abouts in Oxon are you?.

[edit : Guess your link answered a couple of points above!]

Hey Alex,
I m in Witney the far side of Woodstock to you in Bicester. I have spoken to the owner actually seems like a good choice to buy, just wanted to take a few opinions from more experineced owners, I thought someone might know the car. Look forward to meeting for a drive once I find a car if you fancy it?

Sounds good.

Quote from Sinclaire’s ad:

“Complementing this list the vehicle has had the air duct blanks opened allowing inproved air flow to the engine bay and front brake area”

Ask what this means…which blanks have been opened up - front clam ones would do front brakes but not engine bay…and when others (Uldis) did this together with ducting it introduced road debris as well as cooling (which it doesn’t need on the road anyway.

Ask are seats original Lotus Motorsport ones - have they been recoved? They appear to be missing the Exige logo on the headrest.

Good spot on with the seats! - bit unnerved by that…yes its the front clam ones - you can see actually in one of the shots…Only other 190 car I ve noted that looked interesting was at Nick Whales, but I think overly priced, just nothing about on the market at the minute…

don’t be, there might be a good explaination

The Exige logo does sit quite high on the headrest (well above the harness apertures), so it might be just the angle of the photo cutting it off. Easily checked if you go to view it.

Looks like the rear clam has been drilled and cut out behind the number plate mount. This could be the “improved air flow to the engine bay”. Mine is drilled there for the same reason.

Ref the seats I ve looked again - I think the script sits higher than the cut off of the photos top egde…so may well be there…

that’s a good explanation then

Looks like the car that Glaswegian Alastair Rattray (aka Ally on this forum)originally owned. He was a fastididious owner, who moved on to a road going Radical SR3.

Never seen a Lotus Racing Green one before apart from the prototype with gold wheels…could this be the only one in this colour.

Nope, there a few. RobS has a beautiful “one off” in BRG with gold wheels & a unique interior trim

Thanks for the ongoing info everyone - its not Ally’s car, which I m pleased about as from reading back through a few posts seems it didnt get treated very well once it left him, his car when he advertised it here was a 2000 car, this one is a 2001 and one of the very last…

Think I need to arrange a viewing

Repair?! It hasn’t been hurt has it?!

This looks pretty darn good and a very similar age and spec to mine (so depressing on the price ). The good thing about the last cars is that they should have sorted various things, like the higher clearance front wheel arches (which would catch on the earlier versions).

Would be interested to know what price you reckon it should be Ian, particularly given the time of year.
