Another option for ecu programming - info needed
Frank - seriously dude, it would be absolutely fantastic to see you over here in 2012, so if at all feasible…

PS Adam - sorry for thread highjack - we’ll see you too at Easter
Hijack away, it’s run its course.

Back on track…any other questions ?

You’ll need to get used to that on here Adam

Where are you taking me for Lunch in January???

What happened to the Emerald ECU ? when I spoke to Hanger111 they said it was just weeks away , that was over six months ago .

My car’s been running on the Emerald for a few months now. Had a few other bits that have taken longer than expected to sort, but the ECU hasn’t been one of them. Suggest you give Greg another call.

Not convinced the emerald is even three leagues below the syvecs mentioned previously.

How’s your car been running with the Emerald ? From what I was told it learns more than the standard one .

Isn’t Kold Fire doing custom ECU maps sent by email , I may give this a go as it will save me going to Essex each time I need a Gotham re map .
Anyone tried it ?

Honestly how may things can you change on a stock engine to require multiple retunes ?

Got to agree with frank there.

So long as you are within th rane of the mag scale ad te injectors, once it’s mapped up to a certain flw level, why would it need retuning?

Mine has never been to Essex, it has ok motec remote reflashes, which I don’t think are sufficiently accurate ence why I want to start from scratch now that he car is mine.

If it had been mapped by Essex in person in the beginning, I wouldn’t be bothering, I’d just ask for a copy of the maps and make sure I was happy.

Can’t do that with komotc.

So what you saying , if I fit a smaller pulley or a manifold or larger pump & injectors the ECU won’t need a re map ? that seems to go against everything you have said on here before Frank , obviously I’m not going back to EA and having the same map each time , Honestly ! Lol

Sorry but how can a custom tune be sent by post? Surely this is a tune that might suit your based on the bits you have fitted?

Yeah I would say that’s what it is , a list of map files with different options , I’m not convinced thats not what EA do with the bespoke Gotham anyway .

Moomin … Exactly what I have done !
The motor runs sweet …
Slightly too rich for a few runs then finds a level .
Manifold…
Pump…
550 injectors…
2.8 pulley…
308 bhp…
215 lb/ft…
Lotus 260 ecu

Trust me it works .
But don’t try it with a 220 ecu !!

Yeah and I may have gone down that road if I had known mate as your car makes good power and from what you have told me it works well .
I can remember a HUGE thread on here though that you started with Frank going off his boobs telling you to get a tune because your car was running lean after you fitted your manifold .

As for asking EA for a copy of the map , what would I do with it ?? even if they would just give me a copy .

The point I was tryin to make is that there are only so many options with a stock engine and once it’s tuned it’s tuned…You don’t need to retune for a larger volume fuel pump since it has no change in pressure… Slightly larger injectors can be corrected for by the stock ECU but the added fuel delivery gets cut over time by the stock ECU… The stock ECU does make corections and has a fixed target A/F ratio… Now bring your car back to the dyno after driving around for a few weeks and your power will change…Sorry but that’s how the stock ECU does it’s thing in order to correct to it’s programed target…
A retune will map in a new target A/F and ignition timing… This is the sience of the ECU and it is fact…

Old school tuners would just install larger injectors and expect a change to last, it doesn’t…

I changed my manifold and my car was running rough , even after 500 miles , on the dyno at EA it was also running lean , they put the Gotham map in and it sorted it , I then had 260ish hp from 240hp .
I decided to have a smaller pulley fitted at a later date and a re map to make sure again it wasn’t running lean , i couldn’t afford the larger pump and injectors at the time but now I’m going to have them done , Frank - you saying I won’t need to re tune ??

The pump insures that you will have the extra volume of fuel needed, it does not change the pressure. If you increase the air flow you will need a retune in order to have the fuel and timing maps optimized for safe power…

I was the first guy to screw around with aftermarket headers and then supercharger setup and the ECU made corrections each time back to the stock target A/F ratios even with a piggy back ecu. These changes were confirmed on the dyno 5 yrs. ago…

If you want your money well spent you need to tune for the changes…
