I’ve painted the plastic covers on my engine, and used a Lotus Sport decal.
You can also see in the first few pictures that I’ve painted all of the rough unfinished fibreglass in the engine bay with matt back paint. Just makes it look a bit tidier.
I feel like it needs an aluminium oil filler cap to finish off the engine bay. Anybody know where I can get a nice one?
I was driving along the other day, and looked into the back and noticed how untidy the bit where the Bacofoil meets the boot opening, and painting it black as you have done makes a big difference. Currently mine is all rough and theres lumps of what looks like silicon painted yellow!
Engine covers look cool painted red, dont think it`d look quite as good painted yellow to match my car though.
The mess of the engine bay in the rear view mirror was a big factor in making me go ahead with painting it. I didn’t bother spraying it as the surface is pretty rough anyway. I just used a tin of paint and brushed it on. The only problem was knowing where to stop. I’ve just added another picture which shows the black paint all the way round to the ends of the rubber edging strip, next to the air scoop.
There are loads of pictures of different colours on ELISETALK including some yellow ones which do look good. I’d probably stick with red, though.
Tim, I used normal automotive spray paint from Halfords. I used Audi “Laser Red” which is a fairly decent match for Ardent Red. I think the yellow was Vauxhall “Mustard Yellow”. I can’t remember what the green was, but I think it was in the Plasicote range.
For the silver detailing, I used an Audi touch up set from Halfords. They have a very fine nib (which I used) for detail work as well as the fine brush.
Well if you’re thinking of selling that one next year, Fiona’s on the lookout for a sensible everyday car. I think she’s gone off the Boxter and is now talking about S2 Exiges
Well it’s just had a new wheel bearing, new radiator and getting a new heater matrix fitted as we speak, so you probably did well to move to the more reliable Exige

cool Brendan
I like the Frank Amoroso one with the stripe… some of these guys have gone to pretty extreme lengths with the old painting thing…
