Another brake pad question, RS14 or RS42

Hey

Does anyone know which of the Pagid RS14 or RS42 are more road orientated and ok to use with standard discs?

Thanks

RS42.

RS14 more race/track use I think (least that is why I got them)

Thanks

Sorry for the thread steal, how do the 42’s fair on track? And vice versa the 14’s on road.

Cheers for any help. Craig

My RS14’s squeal like a tortured pig on the road, unbearable. Had used them before on standard disks and they were pretty much silent. Now on AP 308mm belled discs and they are about to be swapped out for 42’s. Only takes half an hour to swap them back should I need to anyway.

You have been warned

I’ve always used RS14’s…no squeel…308 al bells…have you checked the small rubber inserts are ok on the calipers??

Aye, done all that can be done afaik. Fed up with keep with stripping the damn things off to try new fixes, RS42’s sat in the garage waiting to go in. They wont be wasted, just not used on the road.

I’ve got 308mm discs and 42’s and they squeal like mad. I’ve tried all the different combinations and it makes no difference. My wife hates going in the car, apparently it’s embarrassing. I’ve just got used to it.

The reason I asked the above was for a friends Elise. I can never remember which pads is for what.

Rs14’s are track biased and 42’s road biased. Looks like I may have two sets of sqealing pads, oh well.

Good luck, if you do find a way to stop them squealing please let me know.

Stuck the RS42’s in, So far only squealing at low speeds, I’d say an 80% improvement over the 14’s. I put them straight in too, no ceretec, no chamfers, shims etc. Happy now but only done about 150 miles so will update again after they have fully bedded in.

Mde!!!

What car is yours mate?

Piccies? (Just wondering if it is my old Laser Blue one!!)

Cheers,

Pete.

Done a few track days with 42s and they are pretty good, not as good as the 14s seem to be (never tried them, just comparing to others), but good none the less and a big step up from ‘standard’ pads. They seem to offer great braking and good feel, but I think fade a bit quicker than 14s with very heavy use.
Certainly for a car that you want to use on the road as much or more than track I’d recommend 42s, with I guess 14s being the recommendation for pure or mostly tack based cars.

wot he said

I only have some mintex ones in, and during the Anglesey trackday all the way back in April, i started to suffer from some pretty bad vibrations under heavy braking, after a chat and some advice from some more guys on here was found to be some pad transfer onto the disc. I only have the opportunity for the odd couple of today’s so a compromise of both road and pad is preferred. A call to dave for some 42’s is on the cards me thinks. Cheers chaps.

Craig

I’ve been using RS14s in mine (AP BBK 4 pots) and they’re fine for reasonably spirited road use, and great on track.

I do find on cold mornings there’s a lack of initial bite until they’re properly warm but otherwise they appear to be a good solution.

Are people not still getting pad transfer with RS14’s when they get hot? I know a year or two ago, this started to happen and it was scrapping peoples discs. Its great news if they have finally sorted that out!!

Rez, i think you should try some different pads yourself maybe. Brake pads are like women, we all use them in different ways and we all like different ones. So try a few different flavours and see what best suits you.

After trying most of what is on offer (brake pads, not women), I am Performance Friction all the way. Good on the road and the best track pad I have ever used.

I am with Sean here, RS14’s killed a setof my discs in one day, performance friction has been my pad of choice for about 4 years now and never had a problem, just don’t use them first in the rain and expect them to be dusty for the first trackday or maybe 1000 miles on the road.

Another vote for PF…

Dont they EAT disks? And make HUGE amounts of dust, which if it gets wet sets like glue???

Or, am I thinking about another??
