Another brake pad question, RS14 or RS42

They do make a huge amount of dust but they stop the car.
I think I would like to try one with big tits, sorry, I’m confused, some RC6’s. I did like the RC5+'s but they did have some transfer and the 6’s are meant to be more track focused. Anyhow, plenty more dust left on my PF’s for now.

Ah!, so it is the PF’s that are dusty!

They ATE a brand new pair of EBC rotors in under 2000 miles, NOT even on track! Dust still welded to my wheels too! And was all over the body as well!

So pleased I have now got a nice set of Pagid 42’s with my lovely Alcon 308’s from Dave at S/L! There is no doubt that the bigger disk diameter allows for great pedal feel and modulation… and I have never had any problems stopping!

Cheers,

Pete

Yeah PF’s will eat crappy disks in no time at all. You will probably find the dust that stuck everywhere was mostly disk and not pad.

Ill throw in my 2p on brake pads.if it helps

I have currently the CL R6s upfront and R5s on the rear.

They have done three track days at knocky and, did the joball on standard brake gear…

On the road okay toosqueak a little at low speed.dust seems quite a bit, but doesnt stick to the wheels, to be honest .as long as you clean them on a weekly baises

Standard disks are grooved and lipped over the year. But nothing untoward in my opinion

One thing that did happen to me, with the previous CL R05s was, that one of the pads material came away from the backinghence the change to the R06s

Also, noticed there is a lot of uneven wear on the pads so, I guess you need to keep an eye on it and rotate them…

But on the whole they have been okay.however, I havent tried Pfs or pags

leigh

Yes it was Sean! Metal dust from the disks… almost had a colour change to SILVER!!!

At least I have some proper stoppers on now!!!

Common problem - happened to loads of us in the Lotus community. Breaking efficiency was also diabolical due to pad material transfer. Ditched them after 1 trackday & reverted back to PFs. Although latter initially create a lot of dust after fitting, they are superb on track & road.

PF Rock.

unfortunately I don’t have the data anymore but we used a DL1 at Bruntingthorpe in an Elise R and back to back tested a combination of pads & discs when we were looking at options. The best combination was a PF01 pad and PF disc. The best Pagid was actually the RS29. Mintex performed surprisingly well.

In general I’d say 95% of our race guys use PF01 or 08 with a PF disc, they all have a free choice as we are dealers for PF, Pagid, Brembo, Mintex etc

I may piss off some other retailers here but I often find that the best products are the ones with the lower dealer margins, the highest margins and therefore the things a retailer should push for profit are CL, EBC, Mintex, then comes Alcon Brembo, AP, PF and Pagid at the bottom with the lowest margin. These margins will no doubt be different or different dealers and some operate volume based schemes so its not true for all scenarios but its a reasonable guide.

99% of our pad sales are either PF or Pagid

The top 5 cars in the Lotus Cup UK Championship at the moment are all running PF pads, most including all the 2-11’s are using PF discs as well, the ones not using PF discs are using AP Discs with PF pads.

^^^^^That says a lot I think^^^^^^

Apart from CL pads make the least profit of all pads…PF pads are the best profit for me

does this mean we get a bigger discount?

you gotta spend first to get discount

going to need some brakes over the winter, it appears the grooves have disappeared from my rear discs!
