Alloy Brake Bells??

Just been looking for these parts on the online shops and cannot find just the bells. Does anyone know where to get them from. They are available from AP (with discs), Eliseparts (with own discs) and Uldis mentioned in a thread about his Mutts Nuts with discs, but not just the bells. I have the drawings from Andy but they seem hellish expensive to get made! ( or does anyone have a good source for sensible prices? )

another thing, are the hole patterns PCD on all the alloy bells the same? i am thinking if buying a cheaper set of elise parts disc and bells, get all set up and then later i can swop the discs to the Alcon 295mm ones once i have won the lottery next month…

Uldis, or ones who know, where can i find out more and buy these mutts nuts brake bits? You seem to have a successful setup on these according to your comments on a thread here.

about 65 quid each from BG Developments in Bromsgove ( AP Dealers )

And no the PCD are all very different

hi andy, thanks for the info.
are these exige parts made specially to order with your drawing or is that an exisiting stock part for this supplier?

Mitch

Special part - but they have made them at least once.

Note that the rear drawing has a very slight mistake on a chamfer so if you use it let me know first !

thanks andy, do you remember if that included a surface finish of hard anodising?

hmmm, i will price up the bell parts and a set of mounting bolts and discs and compare with a finished ap kit from elise parts.

Thats with hard anodised black finish …

Yes you need a fitting kit of bolts and nuts - say 12 quid and vat and your up to almost 100 quid a corner …

Alcon rotors are almost 200 quid each so yup 1100 quid or there abouts is about right - not cheap is it

you’re not kidding! for that money i could easily make some sort of wallace and grommet retractable parachute system out of my lemans tent and an old black and decker drill.

but the end of the day it has to be done right to get all the parts up to scratch.

Mitch, what sort of face finish are on the Alcons ? - do they have holes, slots or ‘hook’ type face?

Cheers!

hi dave,

on the discs there are 6 grooves on the faces and 48 cooling vanes.
they don’t look too amazing but reputidly a very high quality material.( hopefully reflected in the price.) plus using grooves avoids the potential problems with cracks and splitting associated with the drilled discs.

Thanks mate…they sound visually just like the AP’s then ? I know a lot of the Porsche chaps rate the Alcons very highly.

Have many people used them on Exiges ?

At least four of us I think - just about to try 'em with some of the funky PF pads that Sean recommended.

hi benja,

until now have you been using the ubiquitous pagit 14’s?

Yup and had some issues too thus why I am trying something different. Car should be back soon I hope (and sporting a few more ponies) so I’ll let you know how I get on…

what were those issues and what are you hoping for with the new recommendation?

i have been using 14’s with what i believe to be standard discs, with racing fluid, no ducting, and things have been getting very hot. been working well considering, plenty of pedal pressure to keep the disc straight… but getting so hot in fact the pad material has sort of shattered and fallen away from the metal carrier plate and the little dust cover on my caliper has melted all over the bleed nipple.

Similar kind of thing getting very hot and then actually transferring pad material to the disks + loads of vibration when braking. Similar issue to lots of people I think…

That’s exactly how my problems started.
Ducted cooling helped sort things out.

I’m also on PF compound 93 (?) instead of Pagids, and rate them highly, the best so far.

PF Compound 93 is for girls!!! Compound 01 is the way to go!!!

That’s what I got, Type01…kindly supplied by our friends at Plans (to save Graham a post )

Is PF the company that makes these pads ?

What is the difference between 01 and 93 compound for road and track use ?

How much are these suckers ?

Ta !!!

PF is the company it stands for Performance Friction.

This link: http://www.performancefriction.com/pages/compounds.htm explains all of the different compound types.
