PF Compound 93 is for girls!!! Compound 01 is the way to go!!!
I just didn’t want any more squealing…

It would seem the rs14s are not all they are cracked up to be!
I find they are grabby and leave deposits on the disc that cause vibration…bag-o-shite if you ask me.

I thought i had read recently that there were two different versions of the RS14s? It would certainly explain the perceived performance drop-off of recents pads I have had. Of course it may be a number of different factors, but i do seem to remember that they were supreme a few years ago.
interesting reading about the PF pads. Doesnt seem to be much between the 93, and the 01’s.
but what about the 83’s seem to fit fot gt and touring car usage?
i see there is a dealer in uk:
Performance Friction, Europe
Unit 7 - Boundary Road
Brackley, Northants NN13 7ES
TEL: (0) 1280 843390
is this the one u used dave and uldis?
how much are they? and what is the correct size to be ordererd when using the 295 disc on bells? or is there a standard lotus size? after bruh la’s wrong pad pattern story i don’t want to sacrifice and discs to that reason.
they are already closed so i will call them tomorrow.
Call Graham @ Plans : 89+vat IIRC - only fronts available.

Yes, that’s the one.
I’ve spoken to Chris Witter, from the racing dept.
The differences on the compounds are:
01 compound f.coeff.=.55 needs slight heat to work
97 compound f.coeff.=.48 works from cold.
Can’t recall Bruh La’s story but there is no difference in size when you use different discs or bells, as long as you’re using the original calipers. If the bells were too wide, they would touch but that is s problem with the bell size, not the pad. The pad can physically only have as much material as the metal backing plate, and that would be Ok.
my problem (although i do not think its the reason my brakes got too hot) was i ordered rs14s from elise shop and they were the version with 50mm swept area, not the original 45mm swept area. On a std disc it makes no difference, its just how the pad is shaped to follow the curve of the disc, on mine the inner edge of the pad was straight line which means in the middle of the pad its about 5mm wider. Still with me?
Anyway on an ally belled disc the 50mm Swept area pad makes contact with a part of the disc face that AP say it shouldn`t (i agree with them) its the area with cut out in the face near were the disc is bolted to the bell.
However, my discs vibrated like hell after one session at Hockenheim, they had black smudges all over them and generally looked terrible. I am starting to think that the rs14 is not the great brake material its cracked up to be.
On friday at hockenheim i will try the rs42 and if this cannot take the punishment i will try the PF one recomended earlier…if all that fails its sell a kidney and get the LMS 4 pot kit. But that uses the rs14 again which i find grabby and tends to snatch at the wheels…
The brakes on the S are the worst part of the car…
Or you could just try the PF ones (97)
ooops! edited to correct the compound
Why do you would suggest the 93, the 97 and 01 have been mentioned earlier in the thread.
Also, i have the ap bells that came with my ap5000 brake set up from eliseparts, would you recomend i stick with the 5000 disc in 295mm or are the Alcon discs thought to be better? I am correct in saying you run alcons with PF pads?
Finally, do you race or just do trackdays with your set up?
I just do trackdays, but I like to be out there for tankfulls at a time.
I have other disks (MutsNuts) that are no longer made. I would suggest trying the PF’s with the AP’s
What I was saying is instead of changing disks, bells, calipers, etc, just to give other types of pads a try, much simpler.
Mitch
Special part - but they have made them at least once.
Note that the rear drawing has a very slight mistake on a chamfer so if you use it let me know first !
Andy,
IIRC, I had a hand in converting your oringal drawings to SolidWorks - let me know what the error is and I’ll gladly update the SW drawings.

I understand that the AP5000s are the lower end of AP range (although that might mean they actually last longer). The Alcons are probably more comparable to the AP3000 range but at a lower cost than 3000s. I have them on my car and they’re certainly well engineered (not saying the 5000s aren’t).
Personally, if I could get Alcons in exactly the same spec I’d go with those.

I thought that the AP5000’s were the top of the range and above the 3000’s or have i got it wrong…

Well yes, but that will depend on who is selling what I guess
what is the size of the standard rear brake disc on an S1?
therefore giving the maximum diameter for the Ap or Alcon replacement.
i am just in the throws of ordering and want to comfirm the 280mm choice is correct. as the handbrake/caliper assembley cannot be moved out radially as with the front.
many thanks.
