I had a TRD air box and that doesn’t have a snorkel, so I guess you could remove it from your standard one.

And with a 3 inch intercooler pipe there’s still room to change filters
Does this make any difference to the induction noise?
The snorkel is there for noise reduction purpose only. Will not harm removing it and it will a make it a little louder on the induction.
Thanks guys re snorkel…off it comes then…hoping to get down to Merlin Motorsport in the next day or two and source intake scoops, hoses etc. and get this job done…thanks again to TopCat for the i/c shroud.

Here ya go…decided to fix air intake scoops to the pods right up against the grills rather than on the body work back up inside the pods
Whilst you are at it, you could easily do the front grill. I wanted to get at the tow post and clear the rubbish out from the radiator housing etc. without taking the front clam off. I cut out the old bonded in grill, cutting the metal about 5 to 10mm from the edge. Made the new grill up and edged it with rubber. This sits in the opening and is held in against the remaining original lip by the plastic screw that goes into the tow post. Looks totally original until you get really close. Even then most people do not spot the edging.
The ones I have not yet cracked are the horizontal grills over the radiator. From some angles it is possible to see they are starting to rust. I have not yet had the nerve to cut these out in the same way, but it would make the world of difference to access. Any ideas welcome.
Mine has started to do that as well. Where it snowed and the lotus was outside it has rusted a patch that is only noticeable from different angles. So need to find away how to do that as its over the rad.
