Air con......

Car is at Essex Auto - 56 plate - and air con has no pressure, sounds like the pipes in the sill have gone…question is what do I do. Replace pipes or strip it all out - car is mainly for track now I’m back in blighty but I do like the air con - Spa is hot in July and it clears the mist on a cold wet day in the UK…answers on a post card…

Thanks

Matt

Purely as a track car mate I’ve had no issue without the aircon and even when I had it and was caught in a mega storm it still misted up. Without it, I guess it takes longer to go. Window open rocks lol. You’ll save 10kgs no more maybe just less, cap the hoses from the sill, that stuff corrodes like fecking acid!

If you are ever thinking of selling it, I would leave the aircon where it is

Seconded. It is a very good system and works well. Fix it & enjoy

Lol take it out and off set some of that roll cage weight

If it is a cheap fix do it, otherwise take the pump off to save the weight and leave it in a box to in case you want to sell the car

Haha. You dont need a cage for trackdays. Ditch that and fix the air con.

Hhmmmm - mixed bag then - tricky one - as per Ade will check the cost. They said it was the pipes in the sill…sounds like it will not be cheap…will keep you posted next week…think I’m with Sean / Ade…

Fox - you cheeky t0sser…just because yours would blow away in a stiff breeze…

Matt

At the risk of upsetting my bestest m8 “Jonnyfox”
I have to say keep the aircon .
There’s only 1 reason to ditch it … for weight saving if you’re racing ,and many more reasons to keep it … Not least of which is to piss S1 owners off who,d secretly love a way to demist without asking the passenger!

And Matt ?
What do you mean like sounds like the pipes in the cill have gone?
Are they way out of tune?

Just get a can of refridgerant and top up yearly .

Essex said that they can (with a uv lamp) see traces of the dye they put in - in the sills…

Silly question - is there any kind of “rad weld” equivalent for air on…?

Also, is it easy to top up myself ( mamby pamby office boy here btw) …

Defo leaning to leaving it in given the opinions…sorry Foxy…Spa last July was luvly with a cool cabin…

Matt

The replacement sill pipes are rubber coated in the vunerable areas to prevent recurrance :sunglasses:

10 minute job to top it up yourself…
Google search will reveal several diy top up kits …

Jonny ditched his aircon to offset the weight of his IMAX screen that he bolted to the dash

Ha ha yea… I’m gone video harassing the shit out of you bitches at Spa and I’ll be sweating like a pig (even if Helens driving) lol

Will be enjoying my Air conditioned comfort again this year at Spa, fix it you know it makes sense

I recently ditched mine as it was going to be 700-1000 to fix.

It hasn’t worked for about 3 years so I guess I am used to not having it.

Open the windows and make sure you drive fast enough to keep cool

Not a silly question at all. Peter Smith Sportscars recommended this approach when my car needed regassing for the 3rd time in as many years. I was skeptical, but went ahead with it. It’s still going strong 3 years later.

I don’t know any more than that though. No idea what it’s called, and Peter Smith’s are no more…

Halfords used to a top up can with leak sealer built in …they probably still do .
It used to be called EZ chill I think

Yep - thanks - got Essex to pop to halfords and this a go…I’ll report back when the car comes home…should also have a nice light weight engine cover and gearbox oil cooler fitted…
