A decade of Exige ownership

So the week we go to Hethel/Donny will mark ten years of Exige ownership for me. The story so far….

  • 2003 : Purchased a boggo standard 177bhp car from B&C
2004 : My first trackday at Llandow with IDG, AndyD and Mike Lane – I was hooked
2005 : VHPD issues on the way to our annual trackday at Croft led to me experiencing the Edwards Honda conversion
2006 : NA Honda conversion + nitrons etc – let the modding commence.
2007 : SC install and also the infamous ‘white wheels’ phase
2009 : Proper brakes off of Sean’s racecar
2013 : New black and white livery

During those ten years I’ve met some great friends, had some epic road trips and track days and generally enjoyed being the proud owner of such a great little machine.

I fully plan to extract even more enjoyment out of the car in the next ten years, so coupled with turning 40 this year I seem to have reasonable grounds to justify haemorraghing a load of cash on mods

Its therefore with some excitement that I start my very own build thread to chart the progress over the next few weeks. On the menu we have :

  • New inlet (from DrH on Seloc)
JDM Cams (also from Seloc classifieds)
    Tullet over-the-top exhaust (from Jamwill)
    Chargecooler conversion.
    Wavetrac Slippy Diff
Engine bay bling - everyone has gold,…I want gold
    Probably a few other bits

Ultimately it amount to a clams off, engine out disassemble, clean-up and then reassemble with a few mild upgrades

The car at one point has graced most Lotus specialists in the land, but without doubt the fact it is so awesome, is thanks to Martin/Steve Edwards and John ‘JSR’ Shorrocks, thanks lads :sunglasses: This time though its off to Matthew Bentley Racing who are also looking after Jamie’s TimeAttack car. I’m taking the car to Matt on Friday and look forward to posting up progress in the countdown to Hethel/Donny :sunglasses:

Awesome Ben… Do it after Hethel/Donny mate not before, play it safe!

Appreciate what you’re saying bud but it needs some tlc and I’ve decided to go all in. It will be fine,…I’m full of optimism

It’ll be ace mate, good on you. What about your dishwasher, any plans for that?

Well she gets a bit grumpy looking after the kids 'n that but I’ve grown kinda fond of her now

PMSL

Good lad Benja, glad to hear of the forthcoming mods

In echo to the ‘kids n that’ comment, I was pretty shocked when I bumped into you at the lotus festival, I think I must have counted six little ones, do you have a baby making factory at your house?!!!

Haha  I don’t think I’ve got that many,…I lose count. It’s like the Waltons around my place

Summat must milk him !!

Oops … I misread ‘making’ for ‘milking’

Can I write a million times on your thread that you should FO the supercharger and go NA :lolno:

Go on then mate! You will make Pesky’s post count look a trifle insignificant…

… and we will all get rather bored!!!

Fair play Ben!!!

Any driver training in your plans?

 and  and not forgetting

Mate it would be a waste of money, I’ve accepted I’m just not naturally gifted like you, you’re a special talent

Jonny, NA are you serious :astonished: Imagine how slow I’d be without forced-induction, I’d be faster on my push bike :unamused:

What a great decade of Exiging to look back on. I’m on seven years this month. And hasn’t it flown?
No mods on my horizon, just enjoying it for what it is.
Hope all is sorted for Hethel. What a place to christen all those mods !

EFA LOL

great storey, nice to move the car into a new phase of it’s life.

8 years now, hadn’t realised. Nothing I’d change it for.

Just checked my V5 and I have had mine for 9 years and 2 months now. WOW, never owned anything for that long!

Yup they sure seem to have gotten under the skin for some of us.

How much of that 9years has the car been in one piece Sean. If I had your brakes off you in 2009 that’s four years since you dismantled it,…and that’s not exactly the first time you took it to bits is it! Sort it out, I need you to show me how a real driver does it

When you said 2009, I am sure you had them later than that.My S1 has only been apart for about 2.5 years now. A very sad state of affairs I know. But I have had a fair bit going on in my life and no real time to dedicate to it. Fingers crossed it will be back together soon.
