901 kg

Not bad for a near standard S with aircon.

Weight out

Std cat and catback replaced with 2bular
Std battery replaced with Red Top

Weigh in
6-point harnesses and mounting kit driver and passenger
Camera mount 3kg

Not sure what the weight differences between std Bilstiens and 2-way Ohlins? A little more weight given the reservoirs?

Mines a stock NA car with a Larini exhaust, aircon, touring pack and mines 897 so 901 sounds pretty good.

Thats really quite good. How much fuel?

890Kg is the standard weight for NA Exige.

I reckon I’ve saved ~25Kg over stock so far with drop forged wheels, 2Bular exhaust & sports cat. 15kg added for Katana. So I should be around the 880Kg mark give or take a few kilo’s. That’s 55kg less than a stock Exige S

1/4 tank of fuel

Thats the thing I dont get, the stock exige is quoted at 890kgs and the stock S at 930kgs… so where is the 40kgs? In theory its the same car with a supercharger bolted on. If the Katana is 15kgs and the S has the intercooler and pipes on top of that the intercooler is just over 3kgs so with pipes 5kgs max…
so thats 20kgs, the only other thing thats different is the exhaust but thats not going to be more than a couple of kg’s.
so where is the other 15-20kgs?
I think that either the quoted figure for the S is a little high or te later NA’s were more than the early ones.
I am guessing Damon has the Forged wheels which save 10kgs IIRC do we know what the Batt saves? IIRC Damon you have the later dash like mine with airbags etc too.

cheers

oh just had a thought, twin oil coolers… No idea what they weigh tho?

I have no oil coolers :frowning: so even worse! I did have a nearly full tank at the time though. I’m looking at my corner weights right now and the biggest issue it me! I add 84Kg to the FR!

LF RF
Measured 173 172
+/- 84
Final 173 256
18% 44% 26%

LR RR
Measured 274 279.5
+/-
274 279.5
28% 56% 28%

Total weight 982.5

795kg for my S1 with half fuel,air-con and extra oil-cooler.Makes you think!!

Come here thowing your (lack) of weight around… bloody S1 drivers!

Got to be some magic way of stripping an S2 down. I know a lot of people have tried and lost a fair bit. i was thinking about passenger seat etc but that would only upset the balance more.

Apart from all the usual xs stuff and removing the roof I think the only option is more power!

Yep, I think its incredible that for only 100kgs more I get a car thats as good on the road as on the track and that I can truly live with day to day all year round come rain or shine

Which red top battery did you go for, 25,30 or something bigger? I’m interested to know which is the minimum practical size.

Or get an S1 with a K-series and of course full AA rescue membership!!!

889 weighed at JSRacing and at Donny which btw the way has it’s scrutinering bay always open so try it…

But I’ve taken loads out…had a touring pack
2bular exhaust, 200 cell and eliminator
TE37 alloys…lighter than Lotus own
Most of interior out like hi-fi and speakers and plastic inc from the engine bay
All carbon aero
Seats…all but a KG each lol
Seat belts
Battery replaces with Odyssey dry cell
In…
Big brake kit extra weight
2 way Ohlins extra weight
Plumb in extinguisher
Harnesses and bar

You guys with the light weight batteries, how do they fare in day to day use? Any problems with them running flat due to lots of starts? Trickle chargers?

Neil.

I went with the Red Top 15

http://www.msar-safety.com/varley-red-top-15-p-177.html

It has run flat a couple of times, but comes back to life with a charge.

I would not leave the car for more than a couple of weeks with a charge or run out though. I am sure it would be fine for a regularly used car.

Is yours sports pack Damon?

Nice one, the car is used daily. Mounting wise is it the same or does it come with a bracket?

Neil.

How much weight is saved on a full 2bular system sports cat maifold back box from standard?

Yes, basic MY08 with air con and sports pack so came with T45 hoop and harness bar. No leather.

The Lotus system weighed in something silly like 23kg. I did get chance to weigh the 2bular before it went on.

The standard battery weighed in at 12.1kg
