It’s with a very heavy heart that I’ve decided to advertise my beautiful Exige for sale. As some of you may know this is my 2nd Exige and when I bought her I decided from the off she was going to be a keeper. As such I’ve lavished approx 11k on upgrades/enhancements in my 13 months of ownership getting her to 330bhp, looking beautiful and driving significantly better than the standard car in everyway. She’s only covered 7k miles, still under warranty and better than new.
I’m only selling her as I stupidly drove a friends classic 50k RSR replica Porsche 911 and have now fallen in love with the idea of an aircooled classic car, albeit a bloody expensive one(!)
I searched the country for a Burnt Orange car with the forged alloys and after much searching found her at Murray Lotus in Edinburgh. Knowing the short falls of the Exige from my 1st car I started the slippery slope of enhancing her, using only the best companies I could find and using only the very best products available with absolutely no expense spared.
Anyway, enough of the Mills and Boon love story, here’s the spec:
MY2010 Exige S 240 with Performance Pack and Touring packs
Standard spec: ABS, Electric Windows, Black alcantara Probax seats. Supercharged, intercooled 240bhp engine with 6 speed gearbox.
Lotus optional extras:
Premium burnt orange paint (4k option)
 Forged lightweight alloys (1.5k option)
Performance Pack consists of AP Racing brake setup consisting of larger disks, callipers, fast road/track pads and fluid, Uprated clutch, and 240 bhp ECU (3k option)
Touring Pack which consists of CD Stereo, carpet, aircon, front fog lights and sound deadening (2k option)
Full Armourfend protective paint shield (550)
The 1st port of call was MMG Performance. After looking around at various companies chargecoolers, etc I decided on their system including their uprated radiator, etc. Whilst they had it I also had a full service and fitted some other parts too to compliment the much more efficient running engine. Liam is the owner of the business and is available to talk to should you wish to discuss my car, his number is: 0121 323 5149.
 MMG Lotus GT3 motorsport diffuser
2bular GT3 2.75 inch bore manifold and full system including light weight back box and rear panel eliminator kit.
MMG chargecooler kit replaces the standard, poorly designed air to air intercooler.
MMG high flow, triple pass radiator
Lotus TRD Cup airbox and filter
Gearbox oil changed to high temp spec MT90 a well known weakness of the Exige is the gearbox with failures common due to excessively high operating temps.
 Engine oil and filter change
To make the most of the chargecooler and better breathing she was then taken by low loader to Essex Autosport (http://www.essexautosport.com/) for the final stage of tune. Essex Autosport are the only organisation in the UK with the correct Lotus ECU software to provide custom mapping. They also look after several of the cars running in the Lotus cup series. Wayne is the owner and knows my car so feel free to call him to discuss on: 01708 343904
Their work included:
 2.8 inch super charger pulley
 550cc fuel injectors
Custom Ecu remap via their hub dyno
With the engine work complete I decided to pay some attention to the handling of the car and took it to Track Club in Huntingdon (http://www.track-club.com/) only 2 months ago. They provide chassis and suspension work to nearly all of the Lotus cup series cars.
They serviced the car (all fluids and filters)
Fitted Lotus specification uprated adjustable track/fast road suspension: Ohlins 2 way adjustable with remote fluid resevoirs
4 new tyres Toyo R1R all weather fast road and track tyres in medium compound much better than the standard Yoko A048 which are terrible in the wet
 Full suspension setup and geo
Recently I have also had the awful standard CD stereo and speakers replaced with a new Pioneer CD head unit with Ipod connector and hands free bluetooth phone dialling/recieving kit as well as all 4 speakers replaced with high end JL Audio components. Despite costing me 900 it’s now finally feasible to hear the stereo and make phone calls without shouting.
Other little bits Ive also had done include: Carbon light weight wing mirrors (bloody expensive ones too), RLS orange light weight intercooler pipes, Osram nightbreaker headlight bulbs, PIAA wiper blade and anything else I cant think of right now that Lotus didnt do a very good job if in the 1st place
Lastly, for an exhibition for my company she had some bespoke, one off matt black vinyl wrap applied in certain areas. I really like the design and have decided to keep it as is, however if you prefer the standard look the vinyl is easily removed. It’s also much better than the Armourfend at avoiding stone chips.
The car has been very well looked after and with less than 7k miles from new is better now than when she left the factory. With 2 oils changes, 4 new tyres, new tax disk and the remainder of the manufacturers warranty she wants for nothing. The specification of the engine is as far as you can go without requiring internal work and at 330bhp and approx 900kgs she is very, very rapid. I have all the dyno graphs showing the bhp, torque and AFRs. She’s always garaged and has not been tracked (Im far too precious to track her). I was recently booked in for an Andy Walsh driver control day but he broke his shoulder falling off a bouncy castle the week before so cancelled (!) as such she’s never been driven in anger round a circuit.
I really should not be selling her especially after what Ive spent and how few miles Ive driven her but I’ve come to the conclusion that I enjoy tinkering with cars as much (if not more) than driving them. I’m going to take a big hit selling her and will never get my money back so someone’s going to get themselves the a nicely enhanced MY2010 Exige for 34,500 no offers.
Im away for most of the summer holidays so will only have the car advertised here for the next 2 weeks, after then shell be back up for sale in August.
