330bhp MY2010 Exige 7k miles Fully loaded

I do feel sad for you chap, but you’ve just made my year

Guess who’s got one of the other 2 or 3 MY2010 Burnt Orange 240PPs? Guess who also loves Switzerland and has a tiny apartment in Verbier, and drives there regularly in the Exige? (don’t let me start on my winter tyres evangelism…)

Yeah, me… so which part of the FR / CH border is this chap from? Firstly, just so I don’t drive into the scenery in shock if I see another burnt orange MY2010 Exige all the way down there  but even better - I may have an alibi! I lost 90 EUR to the french cops between Besanon and the Valle du Joux last visit, and it’s hard to dispute ‘it wasn’t me’ with an orange Lotus. Unless my car’s twin is nearby

If it isn’t too upsetting, I’d like to ask you a question or two about your 330 bhp spec, as my car is out of warranty next January and regardless of whether I need more power or not (I definitely need better suspension for the track, after finding out first-hand how much difference it makes by spinning at 80 mph trying to keep up with a 260 bhp version with Ohlins that had been tweaked by the instructors on the day) - too much is never enough! I can’t keep anything standard anyway, regardless of how perfect it was to begin with.

Please let me know and if Ok, I’ll email you. As to looking out for your car, if he’s on my route then we will cross paths eventually because I try to pop over every month (keeps me sane - escape pad, beautiful place, and I get to drive the Lotus for 10 hours or so). If he hasn’t read this, he’ll be more shocked than me now! Hehehehe!

I harbour a fondness for air-cooled Pork too, my last one was a 993 that I had supercharged. Simply awesome engines, IMO the best I’ve ever had the privilege to drive. If the flat six fitted in the Exige without wrecking the weight distribution then it’d be the ultimate car… a 964RS spec engine tuned by Ninemeister gives well over 400 bhp (I think they can get something silly like 475 bhp naturally aspirated). A seventies recreation RS with a tuned 3.6 engine would weigh little more than my Exige and be incredibly quick… proper 911s (not wishing to start a flamewar with fans of the new cars) require a certain driving style due to the weight distribution, but it’s not hugely different from the S2 Exige, weirdly. The Exige hardly has 50:50 distribution and whilst it’s not as rear-biased as the 911 (e.g. 993), the standard intercooler and engine mass is higher in the Lotus, and this coupled with the lower polar moment gives similar light-talkative-steering-keep-your-foot-in! handling, IMO.

I’m no driving God though, so I’m sure it’s just my opinion. The one thing you can do with air-cooled 911s when the back steps out controllably - let go of the steering wheel and let the self-centring built in catch the slide for you - isn’t something I’d like to try in the Exige, though. Hehehehe.

Holy Cow buddy you can talk  …but why not just buy some Ohlins then?

Hi and welcome buddy …
Not sure about the 'let go of steering wheel and it’ll sort ’ thingy tho … in my experience it don’t work !!

Good to know my old car will be in good company on the Swiss border then. What are the chances of that happening ? I was told when I bought it that there were only 3 Burnt Orange MY10 models in the UK so to have 2 of the 3 in a small french town is mad.

Mods wise just do a search on my previously posted threads to see the whole story or feel free to PM and we can chat there. Suffice to say 330bhp felt amazing, especially with the Ohlins and other bits. Dont just think about doing it, do it - the car was a total rocket ship and utterly addictive.

I’m lucky in that I have a few cars to drive and I did find myself driving my Viper Green '76 911 (with a late 80’s 244bhp 3.2 engine and Boxster brakes) a lot more than the Exige hence the reason for selling up. It was also compounded by the fact that since I tuned the Exige I managed to pick up 9 points over 6 months driving so I needed to drive something that was a little slower but just as much fun hence the classic porsche. You are right there are similarities between the 2 cars although with my current setup the 911 just goes sideways everywhere - I did a walshy day in it last week and it was absolutely brilliant, totally made for opposite locking at any speed.

And yes you are 100% right about the self centering 911 steering trick - just dont tell anyone else or you’ll ruin the comments of how did he do that when i go out and have fun in the old girl.

Oh that sounds nice pictures please
