2nd hand rear wishbone (yota)?

Was about to send my wishbones to the powder coaters last week, only to discover last minute that one of the rears has a slight bend in it.

…before I order a new one, does anyone know where I might be able to get a 2nd hand passenger side rear upper wishbone from??

Condition not too important as I’ll be powder coating and fitting rose joints anyway.

i’d give Junks or Marc P a try mate. Then if no luck there, give Rocky a call. love him or hate him, he has loads of that kind of stuff, just remember to haggle

Cheers. Think I’m sorted now.

If not sorted I have a couple of upper rears spare!!

On a side note, I have one of gear’s xylan coated wishbones. Could be worth seeing if you can get them coated in that rather than powder.

What is xylan? Dont think I have heard of that.

Xylan coatings are a family of fluoropolymer and fluoropolymer hybrid coatings. Xylan coatings provide dry lubrication, controlled friction, wear resistance, heat resistance, non-stick and release properties and, at the same time, can also give corrosion and chemical resistance.

Xylan coatings solve the problems created when the ideal material for use in engineering construction needs it’s surface properties altered.

Whitford Xylan industrial coatings can be used on carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, steel alloys, brass and magnesium as well as non-metallics such as glass, glass and carbon fibre, some rubber and plastics. Optimum adhesion is usually obtained by roughening the substrate surface before applying the coating.

Impreglon UK is an approved applicator of Xylan coatings and is the first choice should such coatings be specified or required.

Xylan coatings are primarily dry-film lubricants; however, they have many desirable secondary properties. These lubricants are combined in a matrix with the newest high-temperature organic polymers resulting in plastic alloys formulated to provide unique and desirable properties. They perform under heavy loads, at high temperatures, in chemical and corrosive environments, and combinations thereof. In the industrial world, they are known as extreme performance coatings.

Ten reasons why you should use Xylan coatings:

  1. Low friction: CoF as low as 0.02.
  2. Wear resistance: even under extreme pressures.
  3. Corrosion and chemical resistance in most
    environments.
  4. Weather resistance: against sunlight, salt
    water and road chemicals.
  5. Wide temperature operating range: from -250
    to 285C.
  6. Flexible curing schedule: ambient to 400C.
  7. Wide colour range: colour-code your product
    for certain products.
  8. Pliability: Many Xylan coatings will bend
    freely and repeatedly without breaking.
  9. High build: apply multiple coats of Xylan
coating (most formulations) and mill to
    specification.
  10. Excellent adhesion: to most metals,
    plastics, ceramics, wood.

Xylan coatings offer controlled torque, easy removal of nuts in a wide range of operating temperatures, some UV stability, resistance to hot soil and they are available in many colours.

Xylan coating provides:

lubrication

wear resistance

heat resistance

non-stick and release properties

corrosion and chemical resistance

bet your glad you asked!!

Bit like my non stick frying pan then !
Of cousre Sean wouldn’t know about frying pans cos all his Naans are done in clay ovens

Cheers dude. Interesting stuff.

Yeah, dont do fried stuff me.

Its usually Teflon in your cook wear, still it’s all part of the same family of polymers.

Fluoropolymers = mega bucks!!

Some more info here, I had never head of it till I for some eliseparts wishbones.

Sorted the rear wishbone last week (thanks Junks), and managed to get them off to the powders.

…only to find that the Nitron Rose joints dont fit two of the front wishbones - ones too slack, and the other the hole for the bush is slightly oval. Got to love Lotus build quality!!

what did the powder coating run you to?

I think this has to be a common issue for all of us - so what are the possible solutions?

Dunno, not paid yet lol. I think its about 120.

I would be interseted to know if it is a common issue, or am I just really unlucky!

First one I’ve heard of, fitted 8 sets of ours and a few sets of the Nitron ones.

Did they used to have Nylatron bushes in?

Nope, standard bushes.

Out of interest, I thought you should get them powder coated with the old bushes still in?
