Anything over 270 bhp and your gearbox life will diminish drastically. Track it and you just bring the inevitable on even sooner. I know of a few owners that have run with 300’ish bhp for over a year without any problems but in their own words they drive their cars very gently don’t track them, so who knows you might be lucky
I’m looking into the civic type r 'box kit by TrackClub but am also considering the MR2 turbo (E153) kit by MWR if I rebuild the engine for 400+bhp later this year.
Steve - I’ve a done a lot of reserach into this. The MR2 gearbox is a no go. Unless you strip the charger of and go turbo charged to increase the torque substantially, you’ll probably end up with the car being slower with 400bhp, than if you kept the standard gearbox with 330bhp.
The type R gear ratios are perfect. If you run the ratios through a simulator, the performance times of a 300bhp exige are actually quicker than with the standard gearbox. The civic also has a much better 6th gear for cruising…or tearing up the autobahn should you wish

With more continental trips planned looks like the civic box is a double winner…
