260 Upgrade;- what's involved

The new Exige should be with me at the weekend and I’m already looking at the new map and 260 upgrade. Old hat I know but what’s involved, mine has the PP but does the clutch and flywheel need changing for the lightened one, etc etc??

My 240PP had the uprated clutch and standard flywheel. You’ll already have the big brakes and injectors and the long scoop.
Therefore all you need is the ECU upgrade and the fuel pump(plus adaptor)
You will have read the ‘politics’ that have surrounded recent 260 upgrades. Lotus will no longer reflash your ECU through the dealers but will (I understand) do it at the factory. CNs led the way with the dealership upgrades but my experience with Lipscomb’s has been fantastic and can recommend them without question. You will now be required to buy a new ECU, which is a little more expensive than the reflash that was previously offered.
For the money, I’d sort your I/C out first.

Just to make it clear Lotus have never offered a dealer 260 re flash, they did three which were a cock up at the factory due the guy who deals with it being away on holiday. I am not sure what Lipscome have said but as someone who helped lead the way with these conversions I can tell you for a fact that you have always had to buy an ecu to be flashed. Why else do you think we had to go about it that way?
Lipscome even had to ring CN’s to ask how they were supposed to do the job…
I am sure they have been great, they would be they are trying to get there name banded about as being able to do the upgrade.
Really bloody annoys me when Lipscome start talking about politics on other forums, without the work Paul at CN’s put in they would not have an upgrade to copy and they would not of been able to even buy ecu’s to re flash.

If you start with a 240PP car, the “260 upgrade” at the factory consists of an uprated fuel pump, an ECU remap and a TRD lightweight flywheel.

If you go to a dealer, they do not insist on fitting the flywheel, but will of course if you ask.

what is the cost of upgrading a 240 PP to a 260 ?
With and without the flywheel ?

I had my 240PP to 260 upgrade done at the factory. The only mandatory upgrades (Dec 2009) were the ECU and fuel pump.

This costs circa 1300 fitted IIRC

Lightweight flywheel, accusump etc were all options & not mandatory

The lightweight flywheel is circa 550 + vat + fitting.

So if you have a PP car I guess it all depends where you are. CN’s are 1500 and lipscome 1600 from what I read. If your oop north it’s going to cost u more than 200 in fuel and time and u do get ur old ecu back to sell on. However if your near the factory it’s a no brainer.
If you have a 220 car tho speak to cn’s.

The cost of my upgrade was around 2500. The flywheel was the most costly item, mainly due to the labour charge of fitting it. The flywheel and fitting alone was around 1100 without VAT.

My figures are a bit of a guess as i don’t have access to the invoice from here. The minimum hardware to upgrade is right though

I might do the flywheel once the clutch needs replacing to save the extra labour cost (pikey northerner).

There is also the gotham tune from sinclaires, this also has the easy path to bespoke maps and further upgrades, but of course does not have the same seal of Lotus approval

What is the seal of approval that Lotus give on the ECU swap ?

Lotus seal of approval? Don’t make me laugh…

Lol , I can’t even use my launch control thing that came with the car as standard without invalidating my seal !

There is no seal of approval, however clearly the ecu and bits will have a parts warranty.
The advantage IMHO is the fact the car remains factory tuned which will no doubt be better for selling the car on in the future. Many people do not like modified motors when buying.

It’s ok - it’s ok I found my one , phew !

I have the bespoke Gotham tune on my car and it came out with about 263 on the dyno with the standard 240 pump and injectors , I plan to change them when I have the smaller pulley fitted and another remap.

flywheel makes a negligible difference, your money would be far better spent on charge cooling, reducing weight. aftermarket ECU or map, improving handling etc…my opinion only of course…

That’s Pesky fooked then

Think that’s most of us fooked !

It does however mean a drive to Essex, which to some is too scary

Yep, especially the one who have sold off their old bits :astonished:
