260 Upgrade;- what's involved

Nobody would want your old gearbox anyway

And if you track it then your double fooked !
It’s ok - it’s ok I found my one , phew !

I have the bespoke Gotham tune on my car and it came out with about 263 on the dyno with the standard 240 pump and injectors , I plan to change them when I have the smaller pulley fitted and another remap.
Do it…the jump from 240 to 280 felt good but honestly the jump from 280 to 330 feels insane on the road. My business partners 996 turbo feels slow now…obviously the gearbox will last a few months (if I’m lucky) but I’m already planning for that.

where can I get me one of these nitrogen filled Chargecoolers ??

That’s Pesky fooked then
Peskys always fooked

it is not going to be very good if your cars pictures are plastered all over the internet as well, oh crap… triple fooked

To be fair, I would want to see a comprehensive record with a well presented car. These cars should go on track

Or a few laps once you start tracking it - maybe Ade was psychic when he suggested you start with 20min sessions

No thank you mines a daily driver not a track toy, altho I’m hoping with my c/c and accusump to do a couple of “light” track days before I go for rebuild. Time will tell on the track in the meantime I’ve yet to own a more fun roadcar.

Sorry to hijack the thread a little but I thought it might be an opportune moment to ask this question and probably well fitted to the subject of this thread.

!!!Gearbox!!! (runs and hides)

I’m running 300bhp, there are there abouts anyway. Have had the car a good few months now and plan on some trackdays this year to fully explore its potential. I know quite a few of you chaps on here are running this kind of power and I was wondering what your moves will be when/if the gearbox does give up the ghost. I dont want to have to pull the car off the road in the summer for weeks on end if it does go pop.

I have read a few posts regarding possible solutions including the Jubu gearset but are any of these regarded as the proven solution?

I may well be lucky and never have to worry about it but would rather have a route planned for it regardless.

John.

Anything over 270 bhp and your gearbox life will diminish drastically. Track it and you just bring the inevitable on even sooner. I know of a few owners that have run with 300’ish bhp for over a year without any problems but in their own words they drive their cars very gently don’t track them, so who knows you might be lucky

I’m looking into the civic type r 'box kit by TrackClub but am also considering the MR2 turbo (E153) kit by MWR if I rebuild the engine for 400+bhp later this year.

The Jubu gearset and a suitable gearbox oil cooler has been fine on my car and I used this all last year with 300hp+ Speak to JSRacing for full details. I kept my car going with a 2nd hand Celica (650 fitted) gearbox while JSR developed all the elements for the gearbox upgrade.
If you get decent gear oil and a suitable cooler it will probably lengthen the life of the gearbox if you track it but it won’t cure the likely failure.

The Jubu gearset sounds interesting, I would ideally like to push on for 350 ish bhp a bit later so it would need to be man enough for that.

The MR2 turbo box is a strong unit, had a 335bhp one myself before the exige and it didnt break a sweat. Knew of a few running around 500bhp on it with nothing more than a clutch upgrade.

I wonder what their justification for the upgrade was  Seems to defeat the point, especially if it doesn’t go on a track…

Exactly, its nice having the 300 bhp but frightened to really wring its neck. Shame as its constantly in the back of my mind.

What sort of price for the gears and fitting pre explosion ?

Meant to say they treat the tranny gently…i’m sure like me they use all of the 300+ horses plenty. Not many curbs to ride in 3rd and 4th at 7k + on her majesties highways anyway.

Besides once you fatten up the torque curve you can drive the car plenty quickly much earlier down the rev range. I can count on one hand how many times i’ve seen the shift light flick on since my latest tune. It doesnt need it’s neck wrung like it used to in order to cover ground at a pace and for a daily driver like mine thats more useful than having a car that needs to live on the rev limit, like you say thats only really suited to track time.

I’ve had a quote of 1,000 to rebuild my (broken) gearbox with the Jubu 3rd and 4th gears, and a further 200 to remove and refit the box. Not cheap, but thats exceptional value when the gears alone are 795 at hanger111.

They tend to break mid around 6-7k rpm where the torque starts swelling…make no odds really if you wring it to 8k everytime.

200 to remove and fit the box ???

Gimme the phone number !!!
